If you read Bodansky's book about bin Laden, you will read

...a very generous dose of pure Grade-A bulls**t. He simply made a lot of stuff up about bin Laden's background and the al-Qaeda network's operations.

Bodansky has a long track record of making stuff up when the facts are a little too dull for his taste. My personal favorite was his claim that "female Spetznaz commandos" were camped outside the US cruise missile base at Greenham Common, England during the Bad Old Days.

Lol....ya, right. If you want it to stay up so much.....post it yourself. Just remember not to hit the abuse button on yourself.

Does the state have an interest in protecting the lives of the innocent from those who would end same?

that depends on your definition of "interest". Should government be obligated (as in they're liable) to protect all innocent life, probably not.

Should government be organized so as to protect innocent life where possible, probably. Although, the degree to which individuals trade liberty for security is debatable.

If you're suggesting that government should intervene with the medical decisions of individuals (specifically whether they should or should not terminate a pregnancy) in order to protect the innocent life of the unborn child, then I'd argue that there are other more positive ways to accomplish that goal, short of coersion.

What is the purpose of government?

Let's start there.

the child in the womb has just as many rights as the mother carrying him or her

I disagree. The living mother has a natural right to preserve her own life the unborn child does not.

Are you suggesting that the national government by 'monitoring' unborn children is condoning the right of the individual to kill another individual?

No, I'm suggesting a possible outcome that would infringe on other individual rights.

And considering your abolition group of the 1800s amassed less than 100,000-200,000 people out of a population of 20 million in the north (Abolition Party figures) before the war,

I'd suggest there were at least 4,000,000 more people living in the South that could be considered abolitionist as well.

I'd say there's no comparison.

And I've already shown there is.

99.5% of the people in the north could have cared less about slavery.

Thats a false and derogitory claim.

your comparison of Southerners to Nazis was an insult. Nazis killed people indiscriminately, much as the doctors in abortion clinics.

And you have a thin skin (or a guilty concious) my friend. I did not introduce the german national socialist comparison, merely continued the string of analogies. I did not say that southerners were nazis, merely that southern slaves were considered property not human.

As to your original question, it is a decision to be made by the legislatures of the separate and sovereign states since it is not covered under the Constitution.

Murder is not covered under the US Constitution, so it will be left up to each state to decide its definition. Is that your position?

Is it your position that the liberty of the woman trumps the Life of the child?

According to the guys who wrote the Constitution, the purpose of government is to protect individual rights. If you don't have a handle on that, I would suggest the pre-K equivalent of Conservatism.

Good luck.

Murder is not covered under the US Constitution

What Constitution would that be?

Start with the fifth and fourteenth amendments.

I think you know a lot about women...you are one.

He is pro-abortion. I have nothing for him.

We've been "persuading" fro 30 years....the only thing that will work if to gain political power and weild if and if that is acheived and fails then the recourse becomes a bit narrower.

Infanticide is but a symptom of our overall cultural malaise.

I am not the conciliatory type...except to you of course.

No...you're not worthy of the effort. You're young and dumb....and these kind hearted FReepettes are just being cordial to you cause that's their nature.

Their civility towards you does not make you right.

Abortion is worse than slavery...homicide-wise.

As for government say so as you call it. I want laws banning abortion except in the life of the mother which is quite rare.

I think that is clear and unparsed enough.

I am sorry, but regardless of catspaws personal views, you are an obtuse, moron. If this gets me in trouble, I do not regret it. How does his/her personal views have anything to do with this conversation.

No need need to be sorry, I've been called worse without blinking an eye. This topic is abortion-related, and knowing what a particular individual's position is on that topic help's me to understand their agenda on this thread. The person I addressed the question to was free to respond or not. If you have a problem with that you can hit the abuse button and request that Jim Robinson remove the post.

Abortion clinics practice protected serial killing in the name of enlightened social manipulation which places liberty above the 'unalienable' right to LIFE. Thank you Justice Blackmun, et al.

Your obsession with my intelligence and academic pursuits are starting to get annoying. I promise you, it's not my fault you don't have the intelligence necessary to pass classes at your local community college. You should focus your energies on contacting a psychiatrist to address your problems, since I can't. Have your wife . . . I'm sorry, if she would marry someone like you, she must be on your level of intelligence . . . have a local 2nd grader show you how to use the phone book, and try to find some help. And please, spare the world and stop breeding.

Now, would any adults like to discuss anything?

Oh my! Those were such adult turns of phrase from you. Bwahahaha ... you look into a little embryology yet? A little neonatology yet? A littel fetology yet? ... I didn't think so. And just what were you going to call upon in order to have a discussion with adults?

Well if he was trying to make a statement, why wouldn't he accept responsibility, or at least let his views be known somehow?
