Who is going to succeed GW?

Posted on 05/29/2003 11:32:51 PM PDT by ampat

Right now, there isn't a Republican presidential candidate ready to run in 2008. We don't need anymore "its my turn" Bob Doles. O'Reilly thinks hillary is a shoe in because the Republicans don't have anyone who can beat her. Cheney needs a rest, John McCain was once a contender but he has been wishy washy lately. Anyone have any nominees?

Help me with this...there is a sort of visceral problem (not really a dislike) I have with Jeb. He's solid on the issues, I'd vote for him, but I suppose I need convincing on the "electability" issue.

Then again, he has a while to mature.

Hillary totally F'd up socializing medical care in this country and her husband permitted missile guidance technology to transfer to China giving it the ability to target every city in America with Nukes.

She's in the loss column.

Senator Fred Thompson (age could be a hindrance) or maybe he'd be better on the U S Supreme Court.

True enough. After all, wasn't everyone certain that it'd be Liddy Dole after 1996? I know I was. Who saw GWB coming?

Also, less age as a hindrance, but more that thing where he breathes through his nose too much. ;-)

Hillary needs to be run out of NY on a rail. One of those two could succeed where Lazio failed so badly. This should be a GOP priority to get this done in 06.

1) Powell (International reasons)
2) Gulianni (He's earned more than anyone)

I want a conservative to run in '08, not a moderate or a liberal.

"You cannot be serious. Hayworth is my Representative and I like his politics and will continue to vote for him. However, on a national level, he comes across as an unelectable blowhard who has no more chance of winning for our side than does Al Sharpton on the left."

I'm semi-serious. I want somebody that can tear it up on the campaign stump speeches, deliver witty soundbites, and do more than look like office furniture. Now, don't get me wrong. I think Cheney is the best Veep we've had in a LONG time. But if, as I said, we have Rice as our candidate (long shot, but let's play along), we need somebody to balance out her serious nature.

No, Hayworth's not presidential material, you're right. So we'd be playing the odds that nothing would happen to Rice. I don't feel it's necessary to have a VP that can/will run on his own after 8 years, since history shows that Veep's don't do too well at trying to succeed their presidents (Bush #41 notwithstanding).

Good point...I actually should go back and try to track down the first reports of GWB surfacing. Maybe whoever called him first would have some useful crystal-ball reading abilities right now. I was somewhat sure Liddy Dole would run, but if elected, I thought (knew) she would run an awful campaign in the general and most likely lose (she's a lovely woman, nothing against her, just too Opra-ish).

Don't you think that rules Powell out?

Ah. I see. The exact opposite of the (pardon me for using hte "g" word) "gravitas" coin. Good point.

Just remember, she controls that biker lesbian sushi lobby. Beware sharp objects being thrown at your testicles by angry lesbian sushi-eating bikers (fourth largest lobby, really! heh).
