Who is going to succeed GW?

Posted on 05/29/2003 11:32:51 PM PDT by ampat

Right now, there isn't a Republican presidential candidate ready to run in 2008. We don't need anymore "its my turn" Bob Doles. O'Reilly thinks hillary is a shoe in because the Republicans don't have anyone who can beat her. Cheney needs a rest, John McCain was once a contender but he has been wishy washy lately. Anyone have any nominees?

Your right from an election standpoint. Sean Hannity is telegenic, and personable, and would command a lot of grass-roots respect. But he has never had to govern, and this could be a real problem from an administration standpoint. I.e., we may get the man in, but then we may lose the war, if he can't actually implement the agenda.

How about Joe Scarborough with Alan Keyes V.P.?

Hillary might be the Dem choice, but unless she finds a way to counter the HUGE negative feelings most have for her, she's not a real threat.
As for the REP's.. I agree with most that it's too early to start looking..
Powell is TOO liberal.. McCain might as well be a DEM.. If the conservative swing continues, Alan Keeyes might sneak in there.. (My first choice) and then Steve Forbes might be able to make a strong case for himself..

I'd really like to have him as my Senator here in NJ...

I go with Condi Rice too. If any woman is to be President, it is her. She's got it all. Jeb Bush is up there too, but that might be too soon after his brother.

I think Dr. Rice should steal a page from the Hillary files and go run for Senate against Feinstein when she comes up again ('06?). Of course, she will be going somewhere she has actually lived ... CA. She can compete with Feinstein in the SF Bay (Go Stanford!), on women's issues, and race - all they keys in CA. Then let them try to keep her off the Senate Intelligence Committee ...

Ok here is my off the wall ideas for President in '08:
1) J C Watts - a great black man and good conservative with wonderful speaking skills and true leadership
2) Carl Rove - the power behind GW and his earpiece just as Bush finally chose Cheney for VP after having him doing the "search", so might Bush decide Rove to be excellent Presidential material and FINALLY a complete off the wall thought:
3) Bill Richardson changes parties and runs against former boss, Hillary Clinton!

Perhaps you are on to something there. Jeb being a popular governor of a southern state does seem to make him a natural though. (I don't know anything about Jeb's son at all.)

Maybe too many voters would be turned off by the monarchy factor. Perhaps the GOP should run someone else in 08 and keep Jeb in mind for a later election.

BTW - Realized my tag was messed up in my other posts... 2112?! DUH... Stayed up too late posting last night! Perhaps Rice in 2008 after all though.

What? Hillary more conservative than Powell? You must be mad! Powell may be a liberal; but Hillary is a dangerous, ambitious Marxist! Powell at least has considerable experience because of being in the military. Hillary thinks she is, just because she was the president's wife. Powell isn't an over-ambitious powermonger, either!

Now I'm not wild about some of Powell's views on some things(abortion, affirmative action, etc..); but at least we could work with him, I think. He has a much better temperment, and isn't a control freak. I'd take him anytime over Hillary!

Someone will emerge shortly that begins to articulate an overhaul of the government fiscal system, perhaps even feigning great criticism of the Bush and REpub congress for vast overspending, and hugh uncontrolled deficits. That person will receive great praise and applause by the liberal media for beating up Bush and his counterparts on TV and newspapers.

Upon winning the 04 election, with a stronger Senate, Bush will immediately attack the deficit and the out of control wasteful spending, and all hell will cut loose, maybe even concoct a national sales tax... and that one individual that was the fiscal standard bearer, will begin to carry Bush's water.. he will be replacing Cheney in 2006.. That person will capture the White House for 2008...Yep,  you heard it here first folks...

Keyes will never happen. Two reasaons are that he is a Republican controlled conservative and is there for window dressing only. W has yet to implement a truly conservative constitutional policy. This is the position of the Republican insiders. Only Globalists need apply.

Keyes, if he can dodge the corporate bribery bullets, might actually move us in the direction of Constitutional Government and put the people back in power this is something the Republican backroomers don't want as this violates their globalist plans. A "compasionate conservative" is just a redressed democrat of 30 years ago.
In other words the steady slide toward socialism but just a little less obvious than the communist-democrat party.

Hey, I never said that a Keyes Presidency or vice-presidency would be with the back-roomers or Bushies approval. Quite the contrary. It will be over their dead bodies. And there would necessarily be a donny-brook similar to 1976 and 1980 in the GOP primaries and caucuses. But it would clearly be for the best. So let's make it so.

A National Sales tax doesn't have to be concocted. The Bill is languishing in Congress because the Administration isn't pushing for it. I think what you say is a pipe dream. It is what conservatives that are captives of VOTE FOR THE LESSER OF TWO EVILS want to believe. It won't happen and then they will rationalize that Bush is trying to keep the democrat issues off the table so that his successor can implement historic reform to bring back the Constitutional Republic. Then of course the first termer has to use the same strategy as W did and so on and so forth.

The only way Conservatives will ever move this country back is to STOP VOTING YOUR FEARS,VOTE YOUR CONVICTIONS.

Would be great, but Jeb is asleep in Tallahassee. They are doing nothing!

I'm a big Jeb supporter, but he has been horrible this term. Supporting Big Sugar in the Everglades, Florida Medical Board is a disaster. Doctors who should have been out of practice years ago, (1800+ narcotic pills to one teenager in 45 days, another drugging and raping patients, etc.) still merilly going along...

Insiders say Mrs. hates Tallahassee and is taking it out on Jeb. Haven't seen him smile in 6 months. Office is in complete disaray. Staff sets then forgets important appointments. Something very wrong in Tally.

Jeb has not got the foreign policy cahunas his brother has. He is even less likely to be even nominally conservative. Nor will the country stand for a third Bush, as it will smack too much of turning the country into a genetic Monarchy. The RATS will be able to win by default.
