Who Else is Sick of Hearing About Scott Peterson?
Me | 29 May 2003 | Me

Am I the only one who is sick and tired of the wall-to-wall coverage of this case?

Rant on or flame on.

I think we should start eliminating all terrorist camps and military facilities and a few terroist 'offices' in Syria and make sure all of the bombing and missles are covered as they hit...... none of this long distance imovable night-scope cameras that they had set up in Baghdad.

Then we can fillm a meltdown of the nuclear reactors in North Korea as we somehow sabatoge them. I mean we DO have the cameras we can stick anywhere, right? And we can melt these things, right?

And we can send in some covert cia agents to organize mass civilian riots...... er, demonstrations...... against the French Government. And make sure CNN is there to cover it. *s*

Then have a column of about 150 tanks take a drive through Saudi and back into Iraq, just to piss them off. And FILM the thing live. The lead tank can carry a banner saying "just visiting" or something sweet like "We're done protecting your ass - good luck".

Time to move on from Peterson and onto the important things - like eliminiating terrorism and WMD. And embarrass the French. And ticking off the Saudis a bit more - they deserve it.

But who decides?

That's the managing editor's job.

Do you want to go out and legislate that no channel can cover this trial?

That's a far stretch. I don't want to legislate anything. We have more than enough laws already. I want the news editors to do their job and cover news, not prurient voyeuristic sleaze.

No tabloid can be in business?

Who said that? Tabloids have traditionally covered sleazy crime stories. What's new is the block 24-hour coverage on multiple "news" channels on television.

Next thing you know, you'll decide that people can't some in restaurants.

Huh? I don't care if "people some in restaurants" (whatever the heck that is). We're talking about television news.

"Now a woman who drives over her adulterous husband in a hotel parking lot five times and pleads not guilty, that's news. But non-stop, let's dwell on it 24 hours a day new"

Whatever happened to her? Guilty? Jail for how long?? I can't remember.

"Gov. Napolitano is milking that woman's death for all she can. At the same time she is threatening to veto a bill designed to eliminate voter fraud."

Two things a RAT politician can always be counted on for: exploiting the misfortunes of others for political gain and promoting the cause of RAT voter fraud. *Sigh*

Smoke in restaurants. You can't make that leap but, duh, I can't make the leap from covering a crime to hard core porn.

Why not be constructive and tell us what government legislation you propose to stop coverage of the Laci trial. Otherwise you're blubbering.

I think this is a perfect example of manufactured news....a neverending soap opera.

And so many freepers are caught up in it, that it puzzles me. Yes, I hate the news coverage of this.

I suppose it's because she was white, pretty and middle class that makes the story what it is.

No, I'm not suggesting it and I can't fathom how you could imagine I did.

By suggesting that simply because it "pulls huge ratings" and "means more SSS for stockholders" that anything goes. I provided an example of something that would pull even more ratings and would mean even MORE $$$ for stockholders -- so by extension you should be for it.

My point is that there is a point where the search for greater ratings crosses the line. I think the Laci wall-to-wall coverage has gone too far past that line.

She got 20 years in Texas prison. The local news has been a custody fight for her kids, which thankfully hasn't made the FR forum.

Well, there IS a hook...it has to do with the abortion 'debate' and that law that CA never bothered to quietly take off the books. Oh, yeah, there are potentially large national repercussions from any such case...

I'm just sick of the tabloid coverage. It's RUINING a potentially devestating blow to leftist dogma. The networks should let it quietly unfold, with minimum coverage composed of regular updates which might impact on the public at large.

You're apparently not aware that the marketplace prevails ... unless you want to legislate. When there are big $$$ to be made in covering this story, then channels like Fox (the biggest offender in this case) are going to cover the trial. they rack up huge ratings.

Just vote with your remote ... or complain which you do so well.

Heard the other day that since this woman went missing in December there have been over 8000 murders in the USA and that around 1/3 of them will not be solved. Maybe we should obsess about the societal illnesses that cause this horrific reality....

As I mentioned already, there are new programs out there that don't cover the case at all. Watch those. I do.

I'm telling you, people in places like Normal, Illinois, Hornytown, North Carolina are obsessed by cases like this. Anything California or Hollywood gets their attention. Maybe someone told them Peterson was a glitzy celebrity..

Yes, those are real town names.

Oh, and the "Laci Peterson family seeks items from home" is up to 1000 posts. HeHaw!

This is not like hard core porn. If it was we'd have masses of people complaining. But the masses of people aren't complaining, they are watching!

Fox excels in tabloid TV ... do you rail against Fox all the time? And were you like this during the OJ trial?

Why not finish it off with a mass mooning of the UN headquarters by the US military? Might as well do it right. Now THAT, I'd pay to see.

This is overkill. The cable news companies will soon put the tabloids out of business.

I change the channel whenever the Peterson case comes up.

Thanks!! I owe you.

And I'd pay to see it too.

Although a boycott by the new food service company might give us a repeat of the internal food riots. *L*

Can you read? I am not proposing any legislation. I want the news editors to do their jobs and cover news -- not sleaze.

You must be a liberal agitator because you can't fathom someone not running to the government for every thing they don't like. Here's a quick lesson in life: the government is not the answer to everything in life. We have responsibilities for what we do. It is not a case where we are free to do anything not prohibited by law. We are bound by decency and morals (something you lack or can't comprehend anyway). The news editors have a responsibility to the public that transcends the monetary bottom line.

Otherwise you're blubbering.

If I don't want the government to interfere in the free press, I'm "blubbering"? Yeah, you're a Democrat all right.
