Ok...I admit I didn't watch enough episodes to catch onto Ruben's great personality.
I was strickly going by his appearance and his singing.
I'm very shallow.

The original show in the UK is Pop Idol... Mike Darnell at Fox changed the title to AI... Yet it is Pop IDol....

Have you missed all the past contestants who have been all over TV, saying that Ruben WAS going to win because that's who AI wanted to win and who they were pushing?

But were they pushing Ruben just because he was black? I agree that's who the judges wanted to win, but I don't think it was because he was black so much as he was more marketable. I know a lot of people who thought Clay would make a great broadway star, but weren't sure how to market him as a 'pop' star. I think it's unfortunate because this is basically a singing competition, and the best singer, in my opinion, didn't win.

Do you know that Ruben is the ONLY one of the contestants who was in the bottom 3 that didn't lose? And Clay was NEVER in the bottom 3.

Clay was actually voted off, but ironically the judges brought him back as a wildcard!

I have a slightly different view. I liked Rueben from the start. However when the final 12 were picked and started competing I started to shift toward Clay. At the end, it was clear that Clay had a more talented vocal range and could do things Rueben could not.

Last week, I thought Rueben was third and that Kimberly was really coming on strong. But oh, well.

Simon made many comments for Rueben all along, but I can't believe he carried a lot of sway with voters. Maybe just enough.

I believe the voting is on the up and up because if it were not it would be too hard to conceal. More than 1 person would know and it would/will come out.

Someone earlier said the close vote may have been more a function of phone line capabilities rather than total number of votes. And we have seen here that some people vote 9+ times.

Rueben won and they both are recording. Also, some of the others are already working in the biz, so all and all a good show.

My favorite part are the really bad and serious singers in the auditions. Til next year then!

I did hear them say that the albums for both Clay and Ruben would be released the same week. So both have signed contracts. Would be interesting to know th $$$ difference between the two, though.

I was sitting on a bench in a train station and heard Clay on the radio.

I kept listening to be sure it was him.

It was. Oh, yes, it was him.

The sound filling that hall was unbelievable. People thought Barry Manilow was a dork and he is STILL filling houses. And Clay has more versatility than even that.

There were shrieks of racism from the hustlers early on. Complaints about black contestants being voted OFF. Then came the ultimate insult. They didn't consider Kimberly Locke an authentic black because she had one non black parent.

If you don't think those kinds of charges bring fear to the hearts of the producers then you are dreaming.

We can vote again....don't watch again and be sure to buy Clay's CDs.
