President Bush and First Lady Laura welcomed Philippines President Glora Macapagal-Arroyo and her husband, First Gentleman Jose Miguel T. Arroyo to the White House today for a rare but official state visit. The President and Arroyo held a joint press conference today and addressed the war on terror as well as the prospects for peace in the Middle East. This evening, the First Couple hosted a state dinner honoring the visiting President Arroyo. Also announced today, White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer will be leaving his post later this year. We'll miss you, Ari! Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I think you are right..
It makes her look, well, frumpy..
and she is much too elegant for that..she is a full-figured lady, and I think that Gold Brocade (?) is too heavy and cumbersome looking on her..
Fire that designer!

The Prime Minister of Canada is not doing so well in the polls up there. He might be back to the old days of shady deals in no time :-)

Gracious ... it all looks fine to me. I'll bet if W. himself wore that gold dress, with the lime green sash to boot, you wouldn't be complaining half as much <grin>.

It's the national dress of the Philippines! Sorry ... she may not like it either - actually, I think her dress is lovely.

Yeah! And for gosh sakes...it's SPRING!
That looks like a dress that you would wear in the winter....at Christmas....
Love the RED suit on the little President!! As a wearer of bright colors, I appreciate a her daring color choices!

I couldn't agree more. Her designer needs to talk to us - we'll set him/her straight, huh? We know what looks good on her, and this sure doesn't. AND - she's a Winter - and while Gold can be worn by 'most' Winters, not this one. She looks soooooo much better in crayon colors - think of her in red, blue, green, purple - any of the pure Crayola colors, and she looks like a knockout.
Ohhhh, why didn't they consult with us?
Dear First Lady, please dump the designer who puts bows on your gowns and find a grownup designer, please?

I agree with you on the sleeves, but I have read that big sleeves is "cool" in the Philippines.
On a much more positive note, did you all see the First Lady ths afternoon when they first welcomed the President? She was wearing higher heals that accentuates her lovely legs.
Also, did you see Joyce Rumsfeld at the dinner? She is fabulous looking for a woman of her age. I hope I age as gracefully as her. She seriously looks like a woman in her later fifties that chooses to dye her hair grey.
And Condi Rice looked beautiful. I only got a glimpse of her when she was leaving.
Last but not least, our President looked fantastic!

Love the gold color on the First Lady, but I'm not liking how the dress fits her or that darn BOW!She is lovely, the dress is beautiful and I don't mind how it fits, but I DO WISH, she drop the bows from her attires.

If Mrs. Bush just had the dress altered to a scoop neck, I think she would feel more comfortable in it and the dress would still look good. I think she needs to go form-fitting on top.

Now Now!!!! We LOVE our Laura and George but girls just have to dish about clothes....
I think Mrs Bush has the most beautiful face and smile....

Hey Twinkie. Couldn't agree with you more on that bow. Saw it, and went "what is with her designer?" Bows are for children, mostly little girls, for Pete's sake!!I'm with you two. She has a little bit of a tummy and those bows just brings attention to it.

That would be quite the fashion statement. I don't know how complementary I'd be, but you're right, I'd probably say he looked stunning! :) Would he have a huge bow around his waste fastened with a Texas style buckle?

Laura looks lovely in pastels or in darker versions of pink, peach, yellow, and green. One of my favorite is the yellow suit she wore for the "Teacher of the Year" award ceremony.
