Hail to the great hyprocrite
Paul F. Macri, Auburn, Maine
President Bush is a great American, a great American hypocrite, that is.
My stomach turned last Thursday night as Bushs jet landed on the USS Abraham Lincoln and America saw him in a flight suit for the first time since he went AWOL from the Texas National Guard more than 30 years ago.
Dont those cheering sailors who truly are brave and did serve their country know that Dubya conveniently sat out the Vietnam War, not as a protester or Rhodes Scholar, but with a rich boys in to the National Guard? And he couldnt even hack that for the length of his sign-up, so he went AWOL his last year to run a Republican campaign in Alabama.
He was never punished, as a regular soldier would have been, and even got an honorable discharge.
Karl Rove knows that you cant lose by underestimating the intelligence of the American voter, so Im sure well be seeing these pictures soon in campaign ads.
Bush was unelected in 2000. Shame on him.
If hes unelected again in 2004, shame on us for having an economic, political and class double standard.
All is forgiven if you went to Yale and then pretended that you were in the military if your father is a rich Republican and former president of the United States.
Beware being a smart boy from Tennessee who went to Vietnam or a Rhodes Scholar (a true intellectual achievement) from Arkansas. Oh, and also a Democrat.

I believe there is documentation online that proves Bush was AWOL. And, like the documentation that algore's favorite Bible verse is John 16:3 (instead of John 3:16), and that hillary headed the defense of black panther murderers, and that the clintons' mortage in Chappaqua is being completely paid by the Secret Service in the form of its rent payment for the SS quarters in the residence, etc. -- all of these online documentations prove that it is easy to circulate an urban legend on the internet and have it widely regarded as "proven" fact.

I wonder if the Somali-Lewistonian-muslims enjoyed this rant?

So if he is related (married or otherwise) to Joan Macri, who had Gore speak to her American History class, I suppose it stands to reason this "editorial" was written because he has been fuming ever since Election 2000 when his dreams of overnights in the Lincoln Bedroom went up in smoke?

This was a letter to the editor. Macri is not a reporter at the Sun-Journal.

Have another cocktail.
Bush never, not once, missed any, zero, zip, nada place or time he was supposed to be. At all times he was where he was with the full permission and authority of his commanding officers. During any training period he more than completed his required training hours. Furthermore, when he enlisted in 68, his air wing was deployed in Vietnam. Furthermore he, along with other young lieutenants signed and volunteered for Vietnam as relief/replacement pilots.
No charge, complaint or papers were ever filed, issued, recorded that he was AWOL or any other infraction. Regardless of what you think of Bush, get your facts rights, not mass repeated mantra from the press, before you go impugning a mans honor.

I think it's becoming the Official Requirement of the Dems to change your middle initial to "F." John F Kennedy, John F Kerry, Ernest F Hollings. ;)

Don't phone him. You'll only add fuel to his fire and then he's complain about wacko conservatives and getting death threats.
Instead, disgrace him publicly by writing your OWN letter in response to the same paper.

I wrote in McCain, a true veteran.McCain may be a veteran (and so am I, by the way) but being a prisoner does not a hero make, regardless of what the license tags brag about!
Does Kerry appeal to you? His personal worth is nothing, but he did marry the ketchup queen.
At least you found Gore(d) contemptuous; however, if more American voters felt like you this last presidential election would have gone to Clinton's lackey.
I wonder what your sons would think about saluting that greaseball?
To: bogeybob
Ahhh... thank you for clearing that up. I didn't click on the link so thought this was an editorial from the paper. ;) Sorry.

Dubya conveniently sat out the Vietnam War, not as a protester or Rhodes Scholar, but with a rich boys in to the National Guard?Okay, I am getting very pissed at the inuendo that Democrats constantly throw out. That is, those brave men and women who serve in the National Guard are, according to liberal think, really cowards who are avoiding the "real" armed forces.
Time to start calling them on this. Time to point out that libs believe those who serve in the various National Guards are cowards.
Shame on the rotten, stinky, ugly, ignorant, nasty, brain dead libs!

Honestly, you have a point--since when has the National Guard been filled by cowards?
I too am getting very irritated by this.
