Hail to the great hyprocrite
Paul F. Macri, Auburn, Maine
President Bush is a great American, a great American hypocrite, that is.
My stomach turned last Thursday night as Bushs jet landed on the USS Abraham Lincoln and America saw him in a flight suit for the first time since he went AWOL from the Texas National Guard more than 30 years ago.
Dont those cheering sailors who truly are brave and did serve their country know that Dubya conveniently sat out the Vietnam War, not as a protester or Rhodes Scholar, but with a rich boys in to the National Guard? And he couldnt even hack that for the length of his sign-up, so he went AWOL his last year to run a Republican campaign in Alabama.
He was never punished, as a regular soldier would have been, and even got an honorable discharge.
Karl Rove knows that you cant lose by underestimating the intelligence of the American voter, so Im sure well be seeing these pictures soon in campaign ads.
Bush was unelected in 2000. Shame on him.
If hes unelected again in 2004, shame on us for having an economic, political and class double standard.
All is forgiven if you went to Yale and then pretended that you were in the military if your father is a rich Republican and former president of the United States.
Beware being a smart boy from Tennessee who went to Vietnam or a Rhodes Scholar (a true intellectual achievement) from Arkansas. Oh, and also a Democrat.

Either the Republicans are brilliant or the Democrats are unbelievably stupid.
Before too much gloat, consider Estrada, Owens, Pickering and roughly half (or less)of the President's desired tax cut. No, the Democrats aren't completely stupid since they can control the Senate with only 41 members, nor is the Republican majority particularly brilliant since they don't know they are now the majority party in the Senate.

Paul:
You are absolutely right. The deck is stacked, the Republicans are cheaters, and you have no hope whatsoever.
Don't bother to vote in 2004; it's a waste of time.
Resistance is Futile!!
My advice to you is to move North. You are very close to Quebec; you'll be much happier there.

Pretty funny. Views as honorable excuses during Vietnam 1) protesting against America overseas 2) Being a "Rhodes Scholar." Only in the liberal mind does that trump being a jet fighter pilot in the National Guard.

Beware being a smart boy from Tennessee who went to Vietnam Is he talking about the Dumbass senator's son who failed out of law school, divinity school, and later had a bodyguard during his "NAM" days?

If hes unelected again in 2004, Don't worry Paul baby. It'll be a landslide. Leaving little room for doubt that the right man won in 2000. Then what will you say?

Interesting, perhaps we should do a donor search. I think we might find he has been active in the Democrat Party regarding donations...

The tax cut is in trouble because of the RINOs Snowe and (from my home state, sad to say) Voinovich. There isn't a majority of Senators who agree with Bush on this.
And as far as the judicial nominations go, the 'Rats aren't controlling the Senate; they are blocking action for the moment. It's not over yet.

I'd like to know if this guy ever served in the military or National Guard.

a Rhodes Scholar (a true intellectual achievement) from Arkansas.
Well, this is all we need to know that the writer is a complete and utter moron. With respect to the Rhodes Scholarship, Slick Willie stands to "true intellectual achievement" as Chelsea does to virtually everyone else who has been hired by that firm that recently took her on. Each position was a measure, not of intellectual stature, but of political connections.

I don't hear the Rats complaining about Kennedy and Mayor Daly stealing the 1960 Presidential election. They never deny that they did. They think it's OK, because like their hard-core Marxist brethren they follow the idea that the end justifies the means. "By any means necessary!" is the Marxist slogan that they live by.

What is the story on this? Does anybody know the facts? It is a lie that has been circulated widely on the internet by the DU.

Beware being a smart boy from Tennessee who went to Vietnam or a Rhodes Scholar (a true intellectual achievement) from Arkansas. Oh, and also a Democrat.Smart by whose reckoning? He went to Vietnam as a JOURNALIST! A Rhodes Scholarship may be a true intellectual achievement if you're a leftist; I'm not sure that it's one in general. And as far as Democrat goes, that's usually enough reason right there for me not to vote for him!

I heard Tony Snow yesterday saying, with a little self satisfied chuckle, that those who say that Bush went AWOL are "...mistaken."
The way he said it was as if he had said "...idiots!"
I love Tony Snow!

I thought you guys would enjoy this letter. We see a ton of liberal hogwash in the Maine press, but this one was particulary nasty.
The Somali thing has pretty much blown over around here. From reports, many have bailed out to greener pastures.
