Man I am praying for my family in Sapulpa. I checked out the Atlas and this thing is headed right for them (well, it looks like it could go a bit to the south) if it stays on teh ground and the strength of this rotation makes me believe it will for awhile still. There has been SLIGHT weakening, but mostly because part of the supercell has broken off. This could allow it to tighten up and get stronger even.

NEW TWISTERS IN KANSAS
Since Sunday, tornado-packed storms have killed at least 42 people across the Midwest and South: 18 in Missouri, 15 in Tennessee, seven in Kansas and two in Illinois. Officials have estimated damage in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Kansas saw at least seven more tornadoes Thursday night. In Lawrence, one ripped roofs off homes and several apartment buildings. Heavy damage but only a few minor injuries were reported, which emergency officials credited to early warning.
The National Weather Service said high winds were suspected of causing a train to derail in Chase County, where authorities evacuated residents because of a spilled hazardous chemical.

I don't think so. I am 40 miles north of Ponca. We had rain and small hail around 7:00 PM Central and some thunder. I think Ponca is well in the clear and as far as I know, no severe weather around the ponca area tonight.

I thought so too ... but it's baaack! Latest NWS radar shows intense dot at the end of the hook. Take a look at the red dot just south of the highway:

We spent 15 minutes in our storm shelter this evening. Tornado ended up being about 5-6 miles south of our house. I've got family visiting this weekend and they are staying in a hotel that was about 1/2 mile from the path of the tornado tonight! I guess they got a big "Welcome to Oklahoma!". Fortunately they are ok. Unfortunately, the tornados are still ripping through the state. I hope tomorrow will look better than I fear...

I have learned more about tornadoes since moving to Norman in 1997 than I would have ever thought! They test out the latest sirens here in this area as we are only two miles or less from the Storm Prediction Center and HQ of the National Weather Service who work in conjunction with the University of Oklahoma.
Really fascinating to see how advanced even our local TV stations are with broadcasting where the tornadoes are going to be by intersection and time. The advance warning in this area is amazing.
The local TV stations now have helicopters up surveying damage the best they can at night!
Here in Norman we haven't gotten any rain out of the storms yesterday that hit 7 miles north of us or tonight which was farther north. Weather here is really strange.

The supercell has split into 2 groups. So far, only the more southern main cell is tornadic, but the upper split could strengthen and develop tornadic activity of its own.
The northern cell is due east of Tulsa proper (Mannford area).

Large Tornado Strikes Oklahoma City
Twister Reported Along Interstate 40
POSTED: 11:21 p.m. EDT May 9, 2003
UPDATED: 12:05 a.m. EDT May 10, 2003
OKLAHOMA CITY -- A new tornado raked across Oklahoma City on Friday night, a day after a twister destroyed more than 300 houses and businesses in the area.
Storm spotters reported the tornado touched down along Interstate 40, damaging a Xerox plant. The area is under a tornado watch until early Saturday. There were no immediate reports on injuries and the extent of the damage isn't yet clear.
A spate of tornadoes also touched down in Missouri, outside the Kansas City area.
Earlier Friday, firefighters went from one wrecked home to another in the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore and spray-painted a big, red "X" on each roof if no one was trapped.
Authorities said that remarkably, the twister that carved a 19-mile path through the most densely populated part of the state on Thursday did not kill a single person.

Not that I have seen recently. There were bad storms in that area but I didn't hear any reports of tornadoes hitting Ponca City.

Hey, looks like this one is coming right over the top of Tulsa soon. I don't think we're gonna get as lucky as we did yesterday. Getting out the bike helmets for the kids, the blankets/pillows are in the tub...lace-up shoes in the bathroom. Prayers ascending. Stay safe.

Thanks.

According to Fox, it is heading toward the Glenpool-Bixby-S Tulsa area.

It is remarkable that no one lost their life yesterday. People take precautions as soon as they hear warning sirens go off.
Four injuries so far reported from hospitals from this one.
