They are telling people to get underground which means this tornado is huge -- they only tell people to get underground when it is a F-4 high scale or F-5 I didn't know that.....

I was about 25+ miles south of this one. Yesterday I was 7 miles south of the one that hit Moore but we never have lost power in one of these large tornadoes yet. It is amazing to me that we don't lose power.
My cell phone doesn't work though as all circuits are busy.

Warrensburg, Mo being warned that they will get the same as OKC. Yes, that is exactly what the weatherman said on weatherchannel.

I'm off to bed, to count my blessings that I'm real far from these storms.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the path of this monster. Y'all have got guts to live in an area so prone to getting these things.
Stay safe, Oklahomans...

During the 1999 tornado, they were saying that if you weren't underground, you won't survive. That was an F5.
To: nicmarlo
Not necessarily true. All tornado warnings are intended to get people to shelter. Underground is always best, but not always possible.
To: nicmarlo
I didn't know that until 1999 when Gary England on Channel 9 started yelling for people to get underground and said in all of his years of broadcasting he had never told people that before. Only had been in Oklahoma a little over a year when that one hit.

I am upset I was on the road and did not get to pull up the velocity on this sucker. I have no doubt that would have been clear as day even on the velocity for an amateur.
I hope damage to downtown OKC was minimal, as well as the suburbs.....but it sounds like it got fairly bad in the northern suburbs.

How could they get a count so fast, especially at night?

In yesterday's tornado...debris was found in Sand Springs Oklahoma.
that is over 100 miles away. From Moore. Debris travelled 100+ miles.
Two Oklahoma memories:
1. Hearing a car salesman in Ponca City, OK say that his wheat combine had
"disappeared" during the previous tornado attack on his farm. "It's probably now a
wadded-up ball of bent steel laying in a creek bed.", he said.
2. Seeing what remained of a Ford Econoline van that had taken a direct hit from a tornado
(between Ponca City and Stillwater). Looked like one of those blocks of
twisted steel you get when a car is fed into one of those compactor units...
except it wasn't quite that compacted.

This reminds me of Wichita maybe in the mid 90's. It was a crazy night, which tornadoes all over the city.

This is only the 2nd time that I have heard them tell people to get underground. Secondary is to get into a room/closet in the center of the house. But an F-5 tornado will flatten a house and in 1999 actually took up foundations in some parts of Moore.

"Looks like there are three tornadoes all near each other."
Wasn't the '99er like that? An F5 that spawned smaller tornados as it spun out. I recall it kept blowing out, then reforming, i.e., it was at the 318MPH maximum. It seems OK has another one on it's hands. God bless all of you.
