Ah, but Ashcroft disbanded the campaign finance task force. He sent Robert Conrad, the head of the task force who had told Reno to appoint an IC to investigate Gore, away by arranging an appointment as a US Attorney. Ashcroft has demonstrated no interest whatsoever in government corruption.

Nothing will come of this. It doesn't seem to matter which party is in power.

Sorry...I don't accept that excuse. The 'files' excuse is just a convenient way to excuse every example of weakness or failure on the part of our guys to do the right thing. How could we possibly have elected so many people with so many bad things in their past? If we have, what does that say about us?

I don't dispute the files being in the hands of evil people and used to their advantage, but I do dispute the idea that every example of rolling over is a files thing, or that there are no other reasons for weakness on the part of the 'good guys'.

Conrad said he did not have any firsthand knowledge of Leung's possible role in the campaign finance investigation because he headed the task force in its later years. But a senior FBI official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Leung did provide useful information to the FBI through Smith that was used in the agency's investigation.

Remember, AG Ashcroft disbanded the campaign finance task force.
