Trudeau insults Christians in Easter Day Doonesbury cartoon
Doonesbury Cartoon ^

On Easter of all days, Gary Trudeau uses his Doonesbury cartoon to insult Christians in general, and George Bush's faith in particular. How quick the liberals are to condemn someone else's faith and belief system, but just let a Christian say anything negative about another's belief system and how quick they are to invoke an injunction against "judgementalism."

This is a stupid attempt to stir up a tempest in a teapot. Neither Bush nor evolution have anything to do with the resurrection of Christ. Plenty of Christians, if not the majority, believe that it is possible or even quite likely that evolution was the very mechanism that God used for creation, and that the Genesis account is a beautiful allegory. Just because you find it impossible to believe in the Bible unless every single word is literally true doesn't mean that every Christian shares your myopia.

Your biblical erudition leaves much to be desired.

Al Gore believes in no controlling legal authority and global warming.
That explains failing to finish law and divinity schools.

Trudeau just confirms his ignorance.
For example, none of the fields of science he mentions in his 'cartoon' are in any way dependant on the existence/ proof of the theory of evolution. They are all stand-alone fields of scientific endeavor with fundamental underpinnings in the scientific method.
In my life, as an active researcher in Chemistry and Physics, science is just man's effort to understand what God hath wrought. The only people I see rejecting God in favor of what they call 'science' are those whose ego cannot stand the thought of a being superior to themselves.

Doonesbury's still in print? Back when I read papers that have comic's sections, I never found it to be the least bit funny. Not ever. Not once.
Go figure.
The only paper I'll read now is the WSJ....because I live in Seattle.

1) Trudeau obviously thinks that this topic has something to do with Easter, else why did he choose today of all days to address this topic, when so many other cartoonists are running Easter-themed cartoons.
I can think of dozens of reasons why this particular strip ran today, but I can't think of a single reason why Trudeau would pull punches if he wanted to attack a religious group. If Trudeau wanted to comment on Christianity and/or Easter, he would do so quite directly, as he has on many other occasions.
2) I do not deny that there are many Christians that are able to reconcile Evolution with the Bible. I don't happen to be one of them, but I don't go around calling them myopic, and I wish you'd show me a similar respect.
Sorry. Shameless attempts to invent conflict tend not to inspire much respect on my part.

My favorite BC Easter cartoon was the one where the guy is tomb salesman, and the rate sign behind his desk dives a discount for 3-day rental. A guy asks him if he every sold one by the discount rate, and he answers "Just once".

Your biblical erudition leaves much to be desired.
I'm not sure how you could judge my "biblical erudation" from a post that mentions one book of the Bible in passing.

And he has gotten away with it, until he has to answer to God. Don't let him spoil our Easter.

Thanks for the post. The Tennessean, alias Pravda on the Cumberland, got rid of BC and kept some garbage toons that were not even on the radar screen of their last survey because they used a racial theme. They actually admitted that was the reason they kept them!

Well said indeed. I am also an active reasearcher, in the atmospheric sciences, and I cringe everytime some narrow-minded intellectual elitist claims that rejecting evolution is tantamount to rejecting the scientific method. It really, really irritates me.

Trudeau? Never heard of him. Sounds like a Frenchy to me....;-)

Shameless attempts to invent conflict tend not to inspire much respect on my partI didn't invent this conflict. Perhaps you could save some of your venom for Mr. Trudeau. After all, he is the one who, if not invented this conflict, at least chose to antagonize things in the national press. Or do you think his insults were meant only for Bush, and not against those who share his (Bush's) worldview?

Really? Anything to do with computer climate modelling? I'm in the process of puting together a small beowulf cluster and would love to get my hands on some (current) climate modelling software. Any suggestions on how to do this?

Looked at and read the cartoon...I don't get it.
Just looked like two stoners talking about nothing to me....but that's just me I guess.
