Trudeau insults Christians in Easter Day Doonesbury cartoon
Doonesbury Cartoon ^ | April 20, 2003 | Gary Trudeau

Posted on 04/20/2003 10:36:35 AM PDT by JHL

On Easter of all days, Gary Trudeau uses his Doonesbury cartoon to insult Christians in general, and George Bush's faith in particular. How quick the liberals are to condemn someone else's faith and belief system, but just let a Christian say anything negative about another's belief system and how quick they are to invoke an injunction against "judgementalism."

WHAT evidence? I've yet to see any evidence that proves evolution. Where is the fossil evidence? There IS none.

You haven't been looking, have you? What does this website mean to you? Comparison of all skulls. Is it nothing? Is it all fraudulent? Is it Satan's trickery?

We did not evolve from apes. I don't care what your so-called research says. We may be similar in some ways but that doesn't prove we came from them. If you want to be an ape, far be it for me to allow you that privilege.

"How does evolution contradict God?"

By itself it doesn't, it is used by some to contradict God.
That's why Marx was so anxious to write a forward for Darwin. (Darwin declined the endorsement.)

You started out saying there's no evidence. But when presented with evidence, you changed your position. Now you say you don't care about the evidence. That's different, isn't it? Anyway, the evidence exists. It's up to you whether you pay attention to it or whether you ignore it.

Garry Trudeau was born in New York City in 1948, and was raised in Saranac Lake, New York. He attended Yale University, where he received his B.A. and an M.F.A. in graphic design.

Doonesbury was launched in 1970, and now appears in nearly 1400 daily and Sunday newspaper clients in the U.S. and abroad. His work has been collected in nearly 60 hardcover, trade paperback and mass-market editions, which have cumulatively sold over 7 million copies worldwide. In 1975, Trudeau became the first comic strip artist ever to be awarded a Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning.

Just as I suspected: a spoiled east-coast wild-eyed liberal dripping with tolerance of everybody and everything except his Creator and Christians!

I quit reading comics except for Hagar long ago. Why do newspapers carry trash like Doonesbury and Boondocks?

What did those monkeys promise you?

Not to send me to hell for failing to believe in them.

W was born in Connecticut, grew up here, and attended Yale and Boston. It IS possible to not turn out like Trudeau with those circumstances y'know!

I would think that these analogies contradict evolution as most of us understand it. Evolution must let that child fall off the cliff so to speak. Otherwise it must first create the intelligent agent that can act independent of the radomness of nature.

There is nothing evolution must do. Evolution is only a process that happens to imperfect replicators.
Also, you shouldn't derive an 'ought' from an 'is'. So if you only allow people with a long nose to procreate, you'll end up with a population that's equipped with humongous noses after several generations.
However, just because this can happen doesn't mean you should do it.

MM,

It's very difficult to discuss science with someone who actually believes man and dinosaur walked the earth togehter. A few too many "Land of the Lost" episodes? Those ridiculous claims have even been refuted by almost all creationist sources!

You also need to brush up on your carbon-dating thoughts, and take a look at just one of PatrickHenry's missing link links. To deny something so obvious is an outrage. To blame it on "satan" is childish and absurd.

Your claim that "55% of 'scientists' don't agree with evolution" is a bold faced lie, and I believe it would be considered a sin.

You are entitled to believe whatever 2000 year old world view you choose. However, please don't insult those of us who are intellectually curious enough to accept that there are rational explanations for that floorboard creaking and vestigial tailbones in humans beyond demonic ghosts and 'god made it so.'

Cheers

I believe one of the main things that makes a Christian a "Christian" is the belief in the resurrection, and all that that implies. At our church there are lots of different viewpoints on evolution, Noah's Ark, etc. (not to mention gays, abortion, etc...), but the fundamental belief is that Jesus is Lord and He has risen. By the way, as an earth scientist who was taught "evolution", I figure the resurrection is no less of a miracle than creation .. and I can believe in both.

I don't have time to read all this but I can see that skulls are similar but what does that mean? Nothing. Only that skulls are similar. Darwin didn't even believe his own theory. He said it was only a theory. There are many creation teachers who could argue with you. I'm not one of them. I do know one who is and I'll check this out with him.

If man were specially created, there should be no evidence of pre-human species, should there? So what those skulls mean is that humans (with our skulls) arrived after those earlier creatures.

Darwin didn't even believe his own theory. He said it was only a theory.

Of course he believed it. Do you have evidence to the contrary? And of course it's a theory. Do you know what a scientific theory is?

There are many creation teachers who could argue with you. I'm not one of them. I do know one who is and I'll check this out with him.

Bring on all the creationists you can round up. I'm ready.

And I assure you I find your positions just as childish, naive, and gullible. I don't think I said one thing that could be construed as a personal attack on anyone in this thread, yet you wade right in and do plenty of it. That's certainly not "talking science."

You surely have the right to believe whatever you like, as well—one of us will be proven right one day.

I *loved* yesterday's B.C., however: "It says, 'To be continued'."
