Halle Berry says she thinks she's 'ugly'

Halle Berry solidified her place as one of the world's sexiest women with her role as Bond girl Jinx in "Die Another Day."
But the Oscar-winning actress (Monster's Ball) says she still doesn't see herself as a beautiful star.
"To be totally honest, most of the time I think I'm ugly," she told the German magazine Journal fur die Frau. "I see myself without makeup every morning and that's why I don't have illusions anymore. I certainly don't feel like a big star."
Berry added that being black still hinders her progress in Hollywood.
"For many film studios and directors skin color remains a problem. They don't believe that the audience will accept a black actor in the main role. These narrow-minded people underestimate the public and prevent advancement in the industry."
Berry's next film will be "X-2," the sequel to "X-Men" slated for a May 2 release.

Also, Halle acts as if she's the only Bond girl 'of color' (ooo I hate that phrase!). I loved Grace Jones! She likes to play amazon women, but in real life she's actually classy at home. I guess the whole whining thing really gets to independent FReepers Grace Jones! Absolutely!! Loved here in Road Warrior as well! Fantastic actress ... great to know that she's a class act as well. No "whoe is me, I'm black" comments from her either? Refreshing!! Shame that Berry, who someone already reminded us is only 'half black' has to be such a whiner. Really takes away from all that beauty.

You're right on; however, we're not usually aware of how we judge people--whether it be female, religious/Christian stereotyping, or race. One time, I was walking down the street by myself (I'm a lady so I keep a VERY safe distance from any male when alone, white or black).
Anyway, a black guy came from the opposite direction, soI did what I usually did... purposefully avoid him, walk very far away from him & around him. He looked at me & had this most hurt expression on his face, which told me that he's had everyone do that to him (treat him as a potential criminal) all his life.
I think that's it's this kind of involuntary crap, not the outright hurt, that black people have to put up with. However, it's an unfortunate fact of life that lots of people are judged on lots of things. Bald, short white men don't get into upper positions nearly as often as handsome, tall men with lush hair. Just accept who you are, and accept your social handicap (whether it be baldness, race, gender, disability, disfiguring features, etc.).

She is a lovely woman from head to foot. She looks to me like Michael Jackson with a haircut and boobs.
(And they both looked better before the plastic surgery.)

in part, because "a white person can't raise a black child."Look around you. A lot of black parents cannot raise black children. Your own stupid character in the movie dumped your child in the trash.

Did you see Monster's Ball?I saw it and believe me, her nude scenes didn't help her "acting" ability. Best actress? By todays standards I guess anything goes.

She was a lot better looking with her real nose.
But still nothing super.

Listen, the black people in my family are very proud of their negroid features. As they rightly should be. There isn't anything wrong with that, as you are implying. To look like your race isn't a bad thing and it isn't some kind of "sterotypical blue black" issue.
If you want to confine blacks who look black to that kind of language, go right ahead.
But there is nothing wrong with looking black, whether you like big lips, kinky hair or wide noses, or not.
That having been said, the fact remains, Halle Berry doesn't look black. Nothing about her looks black, or negroid, if you are refering to the race she uses for publicity and other things.
She wasn't raised black, and she couldn't even pass for black.

I saw it and believe me, her nude scenes didn't help her "acting" ability.Maybe you place too much significance on the nude scenes. I was commenting on the entire performance, in which she demonstrated that she is more than her looks - she has some range.
Perhaps I'm just generous or something, but the only problem I have with her is that she's crazy. I have no problem acknowledging her beauty and her talent.
