Hasn't bothered me at all, I deer and turkey hunt so I buy bolt actions and shotguns, no need for an ak or an sks.

God forbid, IF or WHEN large numbers of American citizens NEED full automatic Diane Fineswine/Chucky Schumer type assault weapons and ammo, there will probably be plenty available from the local National Guard Armory and some of the Guardsmen I know will be happy to help load them up.
Insofar as OTHER types of military caliber weapons are concerned, studies prove that a decent marksman with a good semi-auto rifle who picks his shots is FAR more effective than some dork spraying the woods with a full auto as the dork will probably run out of ammo before he hits anything.
Next problem?

Price. I don't appreciate having to pay $120 for a $30 magazine.

Give me two choices: some a$$hole shooting at me with an AR-15 either modified to full auto or popping off rounds as fast as he can, or some a$$hole shooting at me with a Remington 700, a scope, and some skill.
I would much prefer the former as opposed to the latter.

The full effect of the ban were not felt immediately, but they are slowly becoming apparent as prices for "pre-ban" items keep going up.
My attitude is that any politician who claims to support the 2nd Amendment should, at minimum, not give support to any new gun-ban legislation, or make promises to renew any thet come up for renewal. If Bush signs a renewal, he will have forfeited the votes of a good number of gun owners (perhaps not tens of millions, but FAR more than his margin of victory in the last election).
He should take whatever steps are necessary to ensure it never gets to his desk, now that he's been stupid enough to go on record as supporting its renewal.

Most the other posters have articulated how the AW ban has impacted me. What I would like to know is, how has the ban made you safer?
To: Poohbah
Yep!
To: Beelzebubba; Wild Game
It prevents citizens from obtaining modern rifles of certain designs.Bingo.
Advanced design SEMI AUTO rifles from SIG, HK and others are TOTALLY UNAVAILABLE to the civilian population. That is an ENORMOUS penalty, as civilians are FORCED by this stupid bill and the import ban, to buy aging and obsolescent equipment that will eventually be junk - just like Chuck and Diane intended.
I am also denied the chance to buy a modern pistol with normal magazine capacity.
Exactly to the point. If you buy a handgun of recent design, normal capacity magazines are UNAVAILABLE to you unless you are law enforcement.
And further- The AW Ban creates criminals out of lawful citizens by making it all but impossible to figure out what's legal and what isn't.
Ultimately, it creates a class of HAVES - the law enforcement community - and HAVE NOTS - the proletariat; hapless civilian shooters.
Any gun owner that posits that the AW Ban hasn't affected them is fooling themselves and ignoring reality.

Full auto weapons are covered by the 1934 National Firearms Act. The AW Ban has NOTHING TO DO with select fire weapons.
Ignore it, and they'll be after your "assault" thutty-thutty next. Bet on it.

Huh?! You realy think that federally-owned guns secured on federal property by federal employees will be available to citizens trying to stop federal tyranny?! Those armories are part of the standing army that our founders knew needed to be countered by vastly superior qualtities of military hardware in citizen hands.

That seems reasonable. But you'll have to tell the militaries and police agencies of the world about the folly of their ways in preferring assault rifles to arm the vast majority of their personell.

Poohbah, just for giggles some day, go attend a service rifle EIC (excellence in competition "Leg") match and see what a trained person can do with a AR-15 and peep sights. You might be absolutey shocked to see the scores from the 600 yard line.

Hell, let me fire a few rounds from a Remington 700 with a hunting scope from limited concealment, and let's see how those groups open up.

Well, guess what?
The average soldier isn't going to be as good a shot, or have as good fiedcraft, as the average American hunter.

I don't have a gun in the house right now (I own some, they are in storage at my parents. I hate to leave them here alone in case of theft) I haven't shot a gun in years and I will surely never, ever purchase an "Assault weapon" of any type.I don't even own a gun (yet). I've yet to shoot a gun, but I would love to be able to buy guns currently under this unconstitutional ban--Steyr Augs, H&K MP5Ks, etc.
To: goldylight
i just bought an american AK 47 by arsenal inc with a 40 round clip... no problems What state? I'm very jealous. In New York I think you can be imprisoned for merely stating aloud a desire to own such a weapon.
To: Lazamataz
Through another individual, I sold an SKS (Russian with good wood) for $600.
I picked up the firearm for $200 a mere 2 years earlier.
Oh well, he found a sucker. :o)
(You need to increase your bargaining skills, bro... $1000 for a good-quality AK???)
I picked up a nice Bulgarian AK (Arsenal) with a forged receiver, back in the late 20th century for a little less than $300.
Shoots really nice & accurate; glad I got when I did.
Gotta 99% Russian SKS for sale to the right buyer/sucker.
Squirreled away as many as I could hi-cap mags/drums for rifles(M!A, HK91, AK, CAR-15,Mini14,10/22), pistols(P99,G22,G23) before TSHTF...
