Interesting live footage on CNN

Posted on 04/12/2003 9:27:32 PM PDT by saquin

CNN reporter Brent Sadler traveling on a road very near Tikrit. The retired military officer in the studio keeps telling him to be careful. I find these live shots very nerve-wracking. It seems rather foolish for a reporter to be doing this, considering that Tikrit is a Saddam stronghold. Just a heads-up in case anyone is interested.

Were the vehicles marked with TV? I didn't notice it on any of the other vehicles in the convoy.

You know, this shows why CNN is dropping CNN's ratings are in the toilet... they have one the biggest exclusives in quite some time, and they just skip to regular programming with the buck toothed Brit reporter (Bentley from the Jeffersons??)... Someone should be getting Aaron Brown out of bed...

LOL. But it's no laughing matter. Have you ever heard a bunch of supposedly "smart" reporters ask some of the dumbest questions .... especially those that have nothing to do with war. It's like their heads are void of any intellect. Where did they get educated? Who hired them to ask these dumbass questions?

Be serious. If they had a brain, they'd have taken a different career path. No one wants to grow up to be a reporter. You get to college, can't hack the real subjects, take journalism.

they would have been subject to summary execution as armed combatants out of uniform. And those executions just might have been legal.

Oh, yes; Judge Napalitano said enemy combatants, armed and shooting, do not fall under the Geneva Conventions and can be shot and killed on sight.

I mean enemy combatants not in uniform (civilians), of course.

I see. Geez, no wonder they're mostly lefties. The smart reporters are non lefties, IMO.

For what? Aaron Brown puts most people to sleep!

Besides, it's Sunday; he probably has a scheduled golf game and wouldn't come off the links, like the day the war started!

The allowable options for journalists are to go in unarmed or not go in. That's their rules, not mine. I hope the reason they are off the air is because CNN has realized how badly they have screwed up by revealing the fact that they sent an armed convoy into a battle zone with "PRESS" markings, and not because they are all dead.

By the way, the reason they couldn't stop at the Governor's office is because they would have been subject to summary execution as armed combatants out of uniform. And those executions just might have been legal. What if they killed someone?

Thanks----checking them out now....I think you got a grab of the guard on the way in, at the first checkpoint, who fired on them on the way out...check it closely.

Thank you for that info. I had wondered about the rules for journalists being armed ever since Shep asked R. Leventhal if he was. They wriggled out of answering that, for good reason.

I hope you're right about why CNN is not on the air live at the moment. The should be sent out of the country in light of their actions but also for (IMHO) sheer stupidity. Do you know the repercussions for their actions?

I can't believe what I just saw happen with Brent Sadler. I did not think he was going to make it out alive. I wonder if the guards had been watching CNN all along and I wonder if the school teacher set them up. Just thoughts.

That's 1 reason among many :). I wouldn't normally pay any attention to CNN but the thread here was compelling. IMHO CNN's major problem is that they lie, I've no specific reference to cite but it's been documented very well here on FR.

Judge Napalitano was on FOX the other day and was asked about dress requirements for soldiers and the legality/illegality of wearing civilian clothes if in the military.

He said it's legal to wear civilian clothes, as long as you don't get caught. If you shoot at the enemy during a war in civilian clothes, whether civilian or pretending to be a civilian, the Geneva Conventions DO NOT apply to the enemy civilian combatant; they may be shot on site.

Those who are in the military get the full protection of the Geneva Convention during war IF they are wearing a uniform which distinguishes them from civilians and is visible from far away. What is worn does not have to be covering the entire body; it can be just a sash, or arm band, etc., as long as it is visible from a distance.
