Sarandon Slams American War Coverage
IMDB.com ^ | 4-10-2003

Outspoken actress Susan Sarandon has lashed out at American TV coverage of the war in Iraq - claiming viewers are being subjected to pro-US President George W. Bush propaganda. The Banger Sisters star says it wasn't until she was on location in Toronto, Canada, last winter that it became clear to her the conflict was being falsely reported in her home country. She says, "I was in Canada when this was happening and if you're outside the country you get a very different perspective on the way things are working. You get news from around the world." The vocal anti-war protestor also brought a new issue to the fore - claiming billions of dollars are being cut from American war veterans' benefits in order to pay for the war. She continues, "The thing I want to focus on now is making sure that the veterans of these wars and of wars past do not suffer from those budget cuts that this administration has put into the budget, which is huge, $45 billion I believe it is over the next 10 years."

One of the local video stores is selling vidoes 4 for $20...so today I went looking.....I had 3 picked out and needed one more when one of the clerks suggested the "Bangar Sisters".....I laughed in her face and said..."I don't watch anything with Sarandon." SWEET it WAS!

You forget: she starred in a movie about the death penalty. That trumps anything and everything.

I'm one of the few who's never seen Rocky Horror. It always seemed too depraved for me...

,,, this wilted frump doesn't deserve coverage on this site. Her opinions are easy to predict and she has nothing to offer on screen either. Another Jane Fonda giving post-menopause a bad image.

You aren't missing anything. I never saw the appeal of it. I've only seen it once, and that was enough.

Don't concern yourself with veteran's affairs. We'll take care of our own. Bitch.

I didn't have to scroll to far to find my thoughts already posted.

Saranwrap can kiss this vets butt! What the hell does she know about what veterans needs might be? She needs to just stay the hell away from where she isn't wanted.

Ahem. Susan, I have two masters' degrees, in technical subjects. I've studied Economics, Philosophy, History, English, Theology, and Spanish in addition. I can think, read, and write critically. Do you honestly think you can attempt to fool me and others like me with such transparent garbage?

But...but...I can memorize 30 seconds worth of script at a time and say the lines with the proper facial expressions. Can you do that?? Huh??? HUH???

The difference is we have our own press now. Fox News and MSNBC give us a choice in viewing and conservative talk radio is the only game in town. Not to mention, this here website that we all love so much. We don't have to pay attention to the libbers mega media empire, and it's killing them.

Last winter? What conflict is she talking about? This one's only been going on for the past three weeks and it certainly wasn't last winter.

This is not the first lib to say we are cutting veteran benefits.

Yes, this is their latest mantra. I've heard it many times in the last week.

If true, and since it is the Congress, and the Congress alone, that spends the money that is squeezed from the American people, your answer may be found there.

I don't care enough about the issue or about proving some lying lib right or wrong, to go to http://thomas.loc.gov/ and check it out.

Wish I knew the answer, hint hint ; - )

What? She didn't now how to turn the dial?

It wasn't until I moved to Canada in the seventies
and became exposed to world news that I realized
how underinformed and narrowly focused on the US
the American press was.  You'd never have known
there was a world outside the Conus.

But that was then.  With the internet, there is no excuse
to being poorly informed.  However, I doubt most people
are as news hungry as those who post on FR and
similar venues.  I'm sure provincialism is just as bad as it
ever was.

I bet she was real concerned when the Dems disenfranchised all those military absentee ballots during the 2000 election.

These folks are constantly criticizing Bush for being stupid. If I was in the entertainment industry and my career was dependant on my popularity, I surely would not speak out about political issues that would alienate half of my potential fans. Now that's stupid.

Me too. I tried to watch it once but became very uncomfortable seeing Tim Curry in black silk stockings and lipstick...yuck!! Yet many Freepers seem to think it was Important Stuff. Will someone please explain? It seems to me it was pure homosexual propaganda.

She'd better concern herself with the millions of dollars that are being cut from MOVIE-GOERS SPENDING AT THEATRES WHERE HER NAME IS ON THE MARQUEE!!!
