FREEPER REPORT APRIL 5, 2003: Pro-America Rally with Glenn Beck in Clearwater, Florida

I'm probably the first person from Free Republic who attended the Coachman Park Flag Fest that's already home. I selected the front page for this report because those of us in attendance from Free Republic invited rally participants to visit us here. It will be much easier for them to be welcomed on the front page. Welcome.
I will have pictures from the rally and will be posting other links here. Flyers were flying in addition to all the American, British and military flags. There were some great signs too.
I was interviewed for local television but as time is always short, I'm not going to stay glued to the set for a glimpse of me. Let's just say that my sign may be on local Channel 13 (Fox) over the reporter's head at the anti-war moshpit, numbering a dozen or so. The short interview which is about that very sign is for local UPN Ch.4 or Ch. 9, I can't say for sure.

Great work with the photos! Yesterday afternoon on 970 WFLA a pathetic liberal called in to whine that the peaceniks were treated like animals in a pen at the rally. He pouted that they required security to be led to their cars, and rally attendees held up their signs all around them so they wouldn't be seen.
That brought a big grin to my face.

The antiAmerica protesters reminded me of a freakshow at the county fair. It was as if they were on display. I was taking pictures of them and most of the people around them were laughing at them, or were amused by their signs. A sure indication of their irrelevance...
By the way, I have been reading about our lack of organization, how nobody could find each other- we need to form a better plan next time, the idea of a big sign is really smart-- I was telling the people that their pics would be posted at FR, and nobody even knew about us! A sign like that, or maybe a 10x10 pavilion with some info to hand out would probably do a lot for FR too.

Well, our Venice group made it on the TV, just like we did last week -- I don't know what the delay in the piece appearing was, but I flipped on SNN Ch. 6 this morning at 8 AM and there we were. They combined our rally with that of the one held by the Vietnam vets organization down in Punta Gorda, which itself must have had 200 people there, as well as police, a JROTC color guard, speakers, etc.!
Richard's smiling face made it on the set, as did that attactive young lady with the two kids. And a part of my interview was also used -- my spiel was something along the lines of "It's essential that our people overseas know that they have the full support of the people back home that they left behind, and that's us. They're over there suffering every day, putting their lives on the line every day, to keep us safe, and keep us free. There is no more noble cause." They had a few other folks speaking as well, including the young daughter of a man who's currently overseas, and two Vietnam vets, one of which was a POW who did very well.
All in all -- KICKASS! We all did good. Oh, and the SHT also had an article on these two rallies on page B1, and a picture of one of our Venice ladies on page B3.

Your pictures are great. I'm glad that you were persistent. You should send your urls to 970 wfla radio. If you note "thumbnail sketches" in the subject line, I bet they'd open your email. You probably know this: Jack Harris, Sharon Taylor, Ted Webb and Glenn Beck (who will probably be swamped). I don't know if Jeff Fischer has an email address.

If you are Glenn-less, I wouldn't worry about it. He may turn up in your area again sometime, like before Campaign 2004. He's a great advocate for the GOP although he won't say that on air.

I think any flag or logo should combine the official Free Republic Logo with a Florida or Tampa Bay image. Maybe an image search for Tampa Bay, FL would yield some ideas. (except the Bucs are off the table unless we want to pay the Glazers thousands of dollars).
BobJ, check out the Clearwater Rally if it's still up on World Net Daily.

World Net Daily's archives don't contain this rally in their archives and there's lots breaking there re: Iraq. If you're still interested, try www.tbo.com.
Fox News Channel: THERE MAY BE AN UPRISING IN BAGHDAD! Three areas in Baghdad where the people are rising againg the Iraqi soldiers. Kewl...

The Clearwater Rally truly was fantastic. My pictures are FINALLY ready. I'll be back later after I caption them which is my favorite part of doing a photo essay.
Did you see saddam's palace today? I liked the tour but the view will be much better when the palace becomes a public meeting place or a hospital.

I too was in the back by the peacenik jail. I talked to your husband and told him that I was going to post up the pictures of him and the B4/after of the PeacnikJail.
I too have been aware of Glenn for all of his tenure in Tampa. I talked to him on the show many times.
My favorite memory of Glenn was when the "Old couple" from Lakeland were attacked in the Busch Gardens area, and the punks stole their money and left the 2 beaten and seriously hurt. Glenn said that he wanted everyone to donate $1.00 to help the ol' couple. I was 1/2 way across the Skyway on my way back to Sarasota when he said this. It touched me soo much I turned around and went back to the Clearchannel studio on Gandy, and gave him $1.00. I will never forget how he made me feel that day. He truly is a great man. (I'm not gay, I'm married..LOL)

Is this your husband?
It was fun to watch all the Rally Supporters put those peaceniks in their place, with rational thinking.

Ovrtaxt: Your WebShots site is a good one for posting individual pics - some sites make it difficult or impossible to display an individual pic without the ads and other junk!
Here's how to post an individual pic:
1) Open up your Webshot page
2) Select desired pic and open it
3) Now Webshots allows you to see the posted size of a larger version - start with the "regular size"
4) Now we're going to try to open the desired pic in its own window or at least figure out where the pic "is" - the steps depend on which browser you use:
For Netscape:
a) Right Click on pic itself, select "View Image" - image appears on its own page.
b) Left Click in "Location Bar" - the page address URL up top
c) If the URL is all "blue-highlighted" press Ctrl-Insert (copies address to clip board)
- If address is not all highlighted, press Ctrl-A (Selects "all") then press Ctrl-Insert
Now you have the pic's address - skip down past the MS Internet Explorer steps ...
For Microsoft Internet Explorer:
a) Right-Click on pic and select "Properties"
b) Left click on the Address and drag mouse to highlight entire address (it may be easiest to start at the end of the address)
c) Once the URL is all "blue-highlighted" press Ctrl-Insert (copies address to clip board)
Now you have the pic's address - go on to next step ...
To insert the pic into your post. Start your post and when you're at the point for the pic:
5) Type: < Img Src="" >
Note: NO spaces between the angle bracket at the beginning and the end of the "statement" - otherwise its just treated as text.
6) Left Click between the quotes and press Shift-Insert - this pastes in your pic's address - now finish post, preview and post final version.
You should probably put a paragraph mark before and after the pic to separate your text from the pi.
Hope this helps. TH54

Rats! The link works, pasting the url into a blank page works but the #$%@*&^^^! img src command is not working! Help! However with some text and cusswords after it the pic all of a suddden works, Sigh. Then I put this line in and the pic disappears! Now its back. Where's muh gun?

I know the picture you're talking about. They were a bunch of Vietnam guys. They had all kinds of 'in memory of...' patches on their vests. Seems they lost a lot of friends.
The picture issue is pretty frustrating, huh? I wish we could post pics straight from the hard drive. Must be a HTML issue.

Did you try my instructions for posting pics? I think my "problem" was simply that there's a bit of delay by Webshots in feeding the pic - they may need to beef up their bandwidth.

Yes, that's the syntax I used when I tried to post them 3 days ago. The problem lies with Webshot's server, I guess.
See posts 70 and 55. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. Now, if you go directly to the webshots links first and view the pics,(at post 140), then view posts 55 and 70, where I posted them originally, they work. Very weird.

Well, we sure looked pretty for our troops!
I hope they all get a chance to see the photos, and that they understand the only reason 20,000 strangers gathered together on that Saturday morning was to let them know we care, and we thank them for what they are doing IN OUR NAMES!
I dont think I will ever forget how it felt to drive an hour in heavy traffic early one beautifull Florida Saturday morning, with 20,000 strangers all bent on one goal:
An unpaid, unstaged, group photo session, showing massive support for our military servicemembers, to contradict the perverted, polished propaganda from ABCCBSNBCCNN.
To: floriduh voter
Wow! 20,000 folks estimated to have shown up. That's GREAT !! Thanks.
