WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Veteran reporter Geraldo Rivera, a correspondent for Fox News, is being removed from Iraq by the U.S. military for reporting Western troop movements in the war, the Pentagon said Monday. "He was with a (U.S.) military unit in the field and the commander felt that he had compromised operational information by reporting the position and movements of troops," Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told Reuters. "The commander thought it best to get the reporter out of his battle space and we understand he is being removed from Iraq," Whitman said. Fox News in New York had no immediate comment, and Whitman said he did not have details of the incident. But media reports said Rivera, a former talk show host and veteran correspondent who has also reported the war in Afghanistan and high-profile stories such as the O.J. Simpson murder trial, had been with a unit of the 101st Airborne Division when the incident occurred. Whitman said Rivera was not officially "embedded," or assigned to the unit by the military, but was covering the troops at the time. Hundreds of reporters from around the world are currently assigned to U.S. and British military units to report the war in Iraq under ground rules that allow them freedom to report without compromising the security of the troops.

Geraldo denies it!
Says it's a lie from MSNBC!

Guess this bunch does not watch Fox news. The joke is on them.
To: JohnHuang2
Geraldo reported he is not being removed.
In fact, he's still travelling further with them.

Will we know the truth before the end of the day? Is he or isn't he out of Iraq?

Now we find out that Geraldo was not an embedded reporter either -- he just hooked up with them.

Geraldo, meet pink slip. Working for Fox isn't a vaccine against stupidity! Geraldo says he's staying.
I suspect that if the commander of the 101st wants Geraldo to stay, he'll stay, no matter what "the Pentagon" says.
The troops like him, and he's a great cheerleader for this war.
And he's taking a hell of a lot more risk than the suits.

This is the third night I've seen Geraldo giving the location of his company and mentioning the new supply route to the west.Three nights ago he gave his location by miles. So many miles north of Q8 and so many miles south of Baghdad and so many miles west of ?....Now he's drawing their war plan in the sand.I'll put Geraldo in the Peter Arnett category (is anybody really surprised at his treason?). I went to the FOX website but can't find the e-mail address...I'm pissed.
OUR very own lewislynn has a keen perception...............he posted his yesterday
Good thinking lewislyn
they heard it hear first on Freerepublic!!!

I was watching when I saw what I thought was exactly what he is accused of doing. I thought, not Fox! Geraldo, shame on you. Fess up. You are not irreplaceable!
To: sinkspur
Well, I saw his line in the sand drawings last night and I too thought he crossed the line.

The troops like him, and he's a great cheerleader for this war. Very obvious, I might add.

maybe they should give him some munitions and take his mice away!

Geraldo says he's staying. And, he should stay.
BTW, if this war weren't front and center, the top story would be how inept Bill Frist has been at keeping the GOP Senate onboard for Bush's domestic agenda. His inexperience is certainly showing.

He is on TV now denying it and cliams it is a smear campaign by NBC to take the heat of of themselves for the Peter Arnett fiasco. He is at this time still reporting from the front and says the first he heard of the story was from the anchor at FOX when he called in his report.

I saw Geraldo MYSELF, live on Fox not 30 minutes ago. He is most definitely NOT removed.
And he said he is going all the way to Baghdad.

I think Geraldo is mistaken, I mean, supposedly this comes from the Pentagon?! I guess the official word just hasn't gotten out to the troops...
