Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Can anyone point me to a link or post yesterday about US medics deciding not to display the Red Cross on their vehicles because it was clear that the Iraqis were specially targeting them?

Fox had an AP operative (which is what I call them...since they are obviously not reporters) who just couldn't resist saying that it's too soon to see if this will be "another Viet Nam."
I swear, the journalism schools must have a course in the great Viet Nam War victory of the press. They obviously cannot wait to start using this term. I note that there is a HUGE effort to get body counts started, the comparison to the Viet Cong and the fedayeen, the "hatred of the west", blah, blah, blah.
It is disgusting, and they are so transparent that I believe most people willl catch on.

Do our special forces wear uniforms when they are conducting covert ops? I can't imagine that they are in Baghdad right now wearing uniforms...tell me this isn't so.

The dweeb was talking to a GENERAL, for pete's sake...Amen. These people have a clintonian respect for the military. My father was in the Air Force for 30 years, retired in the 60's. He went on to a second career where he could have been addressed as 'doctor'. Instead, everyone still called him Colonel, an address I was always proud to hear.

Did anyone ever find that political cartoon yesterday:
Dubya driving the family car, Condi in the passenger seat, press in the back like kids, yelling
"Is it Vietnam yet"?,
"Is it Vietnam yet"?,
"Is it Vietnam yet"?

help a confused participant here.
WE DO HAVE NON-uniformed operatives (who ever they are affiliated with: military, CIA, OO7 (???)--
do we not?
and maybe we are doing some "unconventional " things now too?
What was done and the rules last week perhaps is different now.
I guess I hope we kick a$$ no matter who they are & pray they will be safe !

LOL! I saw the cartoon, but I can't remember which thread.

I missed most of the CENTCOM briefing because a dog that shall remain nameless demanded his walk. However, being a freeper and just and itty bit obsessive compulsive, I taped it. What I've seen of the tape makes me admire Tommy Franks' self-control. I would've pounded the living crap out of a couple of the reporters; the others would've been burned with my acid sarcasm.

"I do have a question regarding his remarks. SF often wear civilian clothes for clandestine operations. If I'm not mistaken that is allowed under the conventions of war as long as they're not targeting civies. Right?" I'm not sure. I do know that suicide bombing isn't part of the spec-ops playbook.

Do our special forces wear uniforms when they are conducting covert ops?Covert? Probably not - but that differs from the notion of waving the white flag (i.e., "I give up") and then firing on whom you're surrendering to; and it certainly differs from acting as petty terroristic thugs to non-combatants.
I'm certain that our SF troops do no stoop to that level.

Finally caught up. This pause is refreshing. Does anyone have a picture of our guys playing football in Iraq yesterday? Great military strategy....Iraqis comparing our guys at play w/ soccer under Saddam & Sons.

Thanks for your kind remarks, and thanks to everyone for not laughing at my feeble efforts to transcribe Franks ... I started a bit late when I realized RC had not chimed in yet ... I'm gonna sign off for a few hours, and will be back later on in the day.

One of Specops tactics is the truth.
The media has no clue of what our people are diong this very moment. The most recent is the report where a squad of "Brothers" went in and took out around 200 of Saddam's most needed leaders on one shot.
Stay tuned, that is only the tip of the iceberg of what is going on behind the lines right under their noses. Our guys will rip them a new one from the inside out! Count on it!
To: abnegation
is there any RADIO station that covers the Fox TV News ?
What time is the briefing?
Maybe our local fox station will break in & cover it (although I doubt it.. kiddies will miss cartoons)
