Does this mean I should find 72 virgins (I think my wife would object, but if this is TEOTWAWKI...) or do I have to convert to Islam, become a CNN employee, announce I hate America, wait for the poles to flip, then when I die I get the 72 virgins? Or should I just get some tinfoil and a 12 pack of Schlitz? Hurry, I'm concerned because this is hugh!!!!

Too much bad Karma. Shun technology and bathe in buttermilk. Everything will return to normal.

The pole switching and (related) rapid continental changes theory was developed by Hapgood and was endorsed by Einstein
... and made famous by Herbert Allan Boardman, when he staged a mock 'assasination attempt' on the President of the United States with a wax bullet.
Oh, hang on, that was "the HAB theory", wasn't it?
:-)

No one knows science.
the earth is hollow and there is a hole at each
pole.
the magnetic pole jumps around until it falls in
the hole, the we have a change of north and south.
pelacur.

And another thing. What did President Bush know about this flip and when did he know it??? But it's the Democrats who constantly flip. I wonder... Could their constant flip-flopping and hypocricy be the cause of the magnetic poles flipping, or is the pole flip somehow causing Democrats to misbehave? We know how they love polls...

The Claus has temporarily moved his operations to Atlantis Base 2 and wishes to tell all the chidren that Christmas will happen as scheduled. Please microwave non-mettalic gifts that smell musty for 2 minutes on low power.

I'm sure the greenies think that SUVs are evil enough to be the cause of both.

...So does Santa Claus have to move?... Nah... Just flip the polarity on Rudolf's batteries so his butt doesn't light up. A fairly simple procedure.

Nostradamus and/or Edgar Cayce said this would happen.

Okay! I'm ready.

The Hapgood theory was not originally related to the magnetic pole reversal... the magnetic reversal has happened thousands of times in the Earth's past according to the geo-magnetic record in the rocks.
Hapgood's theory is that the earth itself will apparently "flip" by about 40 -60 degrees... with the polar regions moving extremely rapidly (say in about 4-8 hours) toward the equator. The air and water would tend to stay in place as the Earth moves under them... resulting in major tsunamis (1000s of feet high), winds of several thousand miles per hour, and the end of civilization for the umpteenth time.
There is actually a lot of evidence in the geology and paleontology to support this theory.
The only relation that magnetic poles MAY have is the further developed theory that the actual planetary shift may occur only in the mantle... which become seperated from the core when the Earth's magnetic field collapses during a reversal and the magneto-hydrodynamic coupling of the crust to the core is negated allowing the crust to move catastrphically.

The North Pole is being hijacked by the Ruskies!
No doubt they will charge a fee for its 'use' that could drain the Western economy.
DON'T LET IT HAPPEN!
More tinfoil hats in America will counteract the attraction towards Siberia.
Get busy!

There is actually a lot of evidence in the geology and paleontology to support this theory. Love to see it. Should be no problem since it occurs every 250,000 years.
Need at least three rolls of Reynolds for this theory. Will be wrapped totally, awaiting your proof.

I have thought about that theory a lot over the years.
Difficult for me to grasp the effect on the diurnal cycles.
Even more so the annual cycles and the effect on life forms.
Thanks for reminding me about this.
I will have to read up on it some more.

And, just where do you think we will get all this buttermilk?
By EXPLOITING cows!
I really hope you rethink this karma thing.

When I was a mere schoolkid there was a group of people in town who circulated mimeographed copies of articles concerning the imminent flipping of the earth's poles, not the magnetic ones but the whole planet. That was 50 years ago, and I am still expecting to find my neighborhood in the tropics and the sun rising in the north one of these days.
