50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' will top the Billboard albums chart for the fourth straight week after selling more than 234,000 copies, according to SoundScan figures released Wednesday (March 26). Of the album's seven-week chart life, it's led the pack for five of them, for a grand total of 3.5 million copies sold.
Both Norah Jones and R. Kelly will remain in their respective #2 and #3 spots from the week before. Sales of Jones' Come Away With Me, a chart fixture for over a year, were upwards of 175,000 copies, a depression of more than 67,000 from the week before. Kelly's Chocolate Factory also slid in sales, from 128,000 to 104,000 copies.
The disparaging remarks the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines made about President George W. Bush in London two weeks ago ("Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas ..."), has hit Home, so to speak. In response to outrage from many Bush supporters, the country trio's songs were pulled from several radio stations' playlists, despite Maines' public explanation ("My comments were made in frustration ...") issued almost immediately after the news broke. The controversy took its toll at retail, as sales of Home fell by more than 42 percent, from 123,000 copies to 71,000. The LP, which has resided near the top of the chart for 30 weeks, will slide three spots to #7.

" I do believe it had a sobering effect on the hollyweird crowd during Oscar night"
I agree. I think it put a shot across their bow that had a cataclysmically palliative counter effect on their liberal/socialistic souls. I suspect it froze many a mouth
shut.
It is about time that something brought that crowd up short.

The funny part about all this is that I believe that
Natalie ( The Fat Dixie Chunk ) was probably going
to ditch her two fellow travelers sometime next year.
She needs them about like a fish needs a bicycle. As
it stands now they all three get to go down together.
Just so's you understand, I'm ashamed that the Dixie
Chunks are from the United States.

Sadly, those who shun the Dixie Chicks have become exactly what they say they are not: anti-American. By burning CDs and posters and throwing verbal stones at Maines, they are violating her most important right and the foundation of this country - her freedom of speech.
No one is violating her freedom of speech. We are exercising OURS.

They have a tour coming up in a few months, be interesting to see what attendance is like. Before "the comment" they were pre-selling tickets, but to buy them you had to pay to join their fan club first, and then and only then could you have a shot at buying tickets. Sale of fan club memberships and tour tickets would be an interesting measure of whether this boycott thing will last for a while or not.

As a sidenote to all this, Darryl Worley's song "Do You Remember" rockets to number 2 on the single charts this week (up from number 9) and is a good bet to be the number one single next week. As well, Toby Keith's "Unleased" album, the one with "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue" on it, is up to number 5 with a bullet. This album has been on the charts for nearly a year and is now suddenly back in the top 5.
So not only are country fans not supporting the Dixie Chicks, but they are transferring their support to recording artists who support America. And that's a good thing.

Here's looking forward to the day I walk into a greasy spoon diner in the worst part of Detroit and my waitress is an oddly familiar looking woman with the name tag "Natalie."

Playlists on radio stations, editoral content boards on newspapers, NOT buying CDs or watching a TV program are CAPITALISM at work. Why do you think they hate it so much?
To: HuntsvilleTxVeteran
I've seen them twice in the past 2 days (singing their soldier song) while surfing channels...I don't even watch CMT... unless I happen to see Faith Hill...

I agree, I think the Chixie Dicks' U.S. tour will be interesting in terms of attendance. They are performing in their hometown of Austin in May. I can't wait to hear how Fatalie Gaines addresses the Bush-loving audience, considering he lived right there in Austin for six years as governor. This Texas girl is tempted to mosey on down there and join the 'welcome wagon' that's sure to be assembled outside the Frank Erwin Center. It would almost be worth getting a large group together to buy tickets, so that we could all get up and leave at the same time during the concert. If only they wouldn't profit from the ticket sales!

Concerts on the road are shere they make real money for themselves. The DC just get thing$ worked out with Sony. Sony can reconsider its trust in the girls for future contract negotiations likely already under way.
Career suicide is such a pathetic thing to watch, maybe even make a good country song.

Well said. Natalie is free to say whatever she wants... and we as consumers can also say we don't want Natalie.
