Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I have a dumb question. This is the first day I've used the live webcam from Baghdad. I've heard "call to prayers" at least 4 times.....is this normal or has it replaced "air raid sirens"?

I haven't seen any refugees, have you?
There are no Iraqi refugees because they are being forced to fight or die by the Iraqi military. The woman and children are being used as decoys. Woman and children are being made to stand and play in the streets to slow down the coalition convoys. Day 2 of the war, media and all were wondering why Jordan was not receiving refugees. This morning it was reported on Fox that none of the refugees that were at the Jordan camp were Iraquis.

Briefing from Ramstein AFB (why are we still in Germany?)
Landstuhl is a good hospital. I took my husband a few times when he had some minor problems and the care is excellent for a military hospital.

It will be interesting to find out, when Baghdad is liberated, why they stayed. Maybe it is supply of food and lack of funds.

She might have had possibilities, but there's a couple of problems with that pic. First, the face seems to be missing. Second, part of the sign that's blocking the face is washed out by the sun. Finally, there's this not-so-little matter behind her.

There are actually several international agencies that are involved in humanitarian aid. Some are ready to roll and the stuff is in warehouses. The south is being checked again. Our guys clean it out and new enemies kkep coming. They're now talking about bringing the dolphins? (sea lions?) in to patrol that port.

I have cable (it's been cutting in and out the last half-hour; both the data and the TV sides), but not everyone does. 'Tis a nice picture, but please have mercy on those who have dial-up.

I keep wondering why Saddam hasn't tossed missles at Israel like he did in 1991. I'm very skeptical with the claim that Saddam doesn't have missles with that range. I just figure he's saving them for his last stand.Me? I'm waiting for one of Saddam's missiles to clear the Dome of the Rock off of the Temple Mount...

How insentitive!!!!
LOL
The first time I heard it on a webcam, I thought it was the air raid siren.

They are staying because the regime won't let them leave and bad mouth saddam - plus they make dandy human shields.

More insensitive....At first I thought it was the cows about a mile away headed for their hay. (No kidding).

It's Monday. I wonder if there will be any shock and awe this afternoon our time. I had to sleep last night instead of watching tv.
Drudge was on the radio and he was asking his listeners if he should take down the pictures from Al-Jazeera. I haven't been to his site since I heard the pics were there.

Well, I trust what is going on, but I have to question some of the strategic moves so far. For example, when troops encountered resistance at one of the southern towns, they simply went around the town on the way to Bagdad- without defeating them. Not only do those troops now have enemies in front of them, but also behind them.
Someone please explain to me how that is a sound strategy.
I also want to add that I'll bet the resistance isn't native Iraqi, but groups of sympathizers from Iran, Kuwait, SA and Palestine.
