The Cost of War
Oregon Magazine ^ | March 22, 2003 | Larry Leonard

Posted on 03/22/2003 12:37:03 AM PST by WaterDragon

From the Drudge Report, 3.21.03: DOW HAS BEST WEEK SINCE 1982... DOLLAR HITS MULTI-MONTH HIGHS... OIL PRICES PLUNGE...GOLD DROPS BELOW $330...

Who builds the Bradley Fighting Vehicle? Or, how about Cruise missiles? Who builds the Stealth Bomber? Our aircraft carriers? Our tanks? Our rifles? Our military boots? You are a clever devil. As a reader of Oregon Magazine, and a fan of David Horowitz, Rush Limbaugh, George Will, Walter Williams or Tony Snow, you already have this one sniffed out don't you?

For the newcomers, a little background, though.

Nobody asked FDR what WWII would cost. Nobody asked JFK or Lyndon Johnson what Viet Nam would cost. Nobody asked Bill Clinton what Kosovo (or any of his other wars) would cost. But, the Bush-hating liberal mainstream media types, and their political party, the Democrats, are not just asking, but demanding what Iraq is going to cost.

We'll deal with the why of it in a few words.....(snip)

Doesn't Oregon produce anything other than soldiers for the war effort? We certainly send enough of our best and brightest!

We need to spend $100 billion a year extra to provide for a global military capability. A cheap price to pay in view of what 9-11 cost us.

There's no price too high for our security.

You just had to bring up that whole cost thing didn't you?

I'll never forget that day 11 Sep 01 as long as I live. I remember watching in horror at people who chose the plunge to their deaths rather than burn up while still alive. The sounds of their bodies impacting the ground off camera. I remember watching in shock as the camera zoomed in on some hapless soul falling out of one of the towers, their back to the ground and a white streamer trailing away and up from them. Realizing afterwards that was probably vomit...

I still hear that sound every time I see anti-war demonstrators. These peace loving protestors give me a chill akin to somebody walkin' over my grave. By the way, I seen some of their koom-bye-ah peace lovin' in Oregon the other day.

Yup, there's a cost alright, aint no doubt about it...

(Saddam's going to pay some of it)

I'm mighty proud of some of the United States finest are opening up a can of some serious woop-ass for some mighty long and overdue pay-back. You know what they say about pay-backs...

P.S. Don't know about you, but I didn't forget the Berlin discoteque bombing, nor the U.S.S Stark either. So you just add that to my tab. Oh, and you cheese eating surrender monkey frogs? That embassy building in Baghdad? I'm thinking you might need to do some renovating - like the one in Libya needed because you denied our fly boys over-flight rights and as a result of sleep deprivation their aim wasn't as sure as it otherwise might've been, remember? Back when we were takin' care of biddness wit Muamhar Khaddafy? If it was up to me, you can go and BUILD A NEW HOUSE!!!!

It will cost a hell of a lot more if we do nothing!

Besides ... it's only money. :)

It's right that war creates jobs....and winning the war creates wealth. Funny how we don't hear that these days......This is a 'common sense' article, and a good read.
