Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been shown on state television meeting with his son, Qusay, who heads the Republican Guard, and Defence Minister Sultan Hashem Ahmad on the second day of a US-led war targeting his regime. Was it 'live' or was it 'Memorex"?

Don't forget LIFE Magazine, Ernie Pyle, Bill Mauldin, Pathe News (black & white war news in theaters between the features), Victory gardens, rationing ... oh, I could go on, but that would be off-topic, wouldn't it?

My Mom was but a young girl, age 11, when WW-II started and she was telling us all about such as you posted. BTW I saw a cartoon the other day with Joe and Willy from Bill Mauldins cartoon being greeted at the gates by the Peanuts dog , Snoopy. Great strip.....I'll see if I can find it for you.

Your Mom must be about my age!! Please ask her if she read the cartoon strip, "Joe Palooka" in the newspaper. There was a thread here on FR several months ago. Joe was a boxer who served in the war in Europe. His girlfriend was Ann Howe. The appeal of the comic strip was universal ... we all liked it, men, women, kids ... everybody. It was very American. Very patriotic!

And saddened. Deeply saddened. Are you *sure*?
He may have actually been "Troubled" or "Disheartened"...
