The 332d is also the unit known as the Tuskegee Airman back in WWII...

Then they have a proud tradition to uphold.

Barbara Starr at the Pentagon is now reporting that we're to expect all U.S. air assets in play soon now.

It flies low and slow, can loiter for hours, can take punishment...

IIRC, the pilot's seating area is basically an armored tub (titanium alloy?).
The enemy grunts on the ground can throw up lots of small arms fire and
the pilot is still (relatively) safe...

"The best we have at air to ground combat, I believe..."

They have been trying to retire the A-10 for the past 17 years, but keep bringing it out of mothballs due to being the best.

Oh, keep channel-surfing while all the war/Iraq Theater coverage is going on...
surely some of the networks will air the stock video footage of an A-10's
cannon simply splattering a tank (older Soviet issue) during the usual "low and slow"
fly-by. (this was a demostration, not a real combat video, I think)

I was stationed at Al Jaber AB when they dedicated a hall to the 332d, the brought in a actual Pilot of the 332d from WWII to oversee the dedication. This was in 1999....

I had to guard an A-10 back in '83 during the Cold War era, walking around that ugly bird counting the rivets....

My uncle flew bombers in Italy and into Polesti during WWII. The Tuskegee Airman hold a special place in his heart.

I remember being in Reforger 78 and the A-10 wiped out my tank company 2 or 3 times. You don't hear them until they are overhead and by that time (if they are using live ammunition) you don't hear them anyway. They fire anti-tank missles, too.

The librarian will show you the part of the library where the standard accounts of these four wars are available. All you have to do is get about three or four and you can locate the sufficient facts within them while avoiding any biases prevelant in one or another.
