Reporter-"What evidence do you have that Iraqi's are heading your calls?"
Rumsfield-"We have evidence"
Rep-"What evidence?"
Rum-"Good evidence."
To: Fishtalk
I agree with your analyis, Fishtalk! They will want to be absolutely sure, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear in the next few days that the war was basically won with the surgical strike.
To: goodseedhomeschool
"We have evidence (that appeals to Iraqis to surrender are working). Good evidence."
"We have very good evidence that it was a very senior Iraqi leadership compound."
To: Mo1
it's that headline at the bottom that needs to go I love how it says 'Rumsfeld to Iraqi citizens: There is no need to flee Iraq'. I half-expect it to say 'Rumsfeld to Iraqi prez: "DROP DEAD!"', in the style of the New York Post.
To: Freedom'sWorthIt
What, if anything, is this operation taking away from the war against Al Qaeda?
Rummy: It isn't taking anything away.

Yes and he just said that he won't do a day by day assessment of supposed propaganda victories. (In answer to a question about missing Saddam last night.) In the end Saddam will be gone.
To: HairOfTheDog
Big TV's...lots of room.
To: NautiNurse
Rumsfeld: Debate about whether that was Saddam Hussein on the tape last night.

thanks

"There's debate about that (whether man on tape was really Saddam Hussein)."
To: Fishtalk
I agree with your assessment: i also think Bush should hold back on the "shock and awe" until it is clearer how things are going, for a number of reasons:
- it may not be necessary
- it could end up appearing as bullying to the outside world
- it could backfire: if it DOESN'T break the will of the Republican Guard and they survive it, they will be heartened and re-invigorated in resisting
i do believe, that parts of the shock and awe can and should be used as needed (like the Ebomb if that could prevent WMD use)

Slaped that puke down Love it

of course its not over. in fact, to me it looks like we got off our game plan by trying this "decapitation" strike. not that it wasn't a good idea, it was. but we need to assess whether it was effective and if not, quickly move on to the "real deal". too much conflicting information: first we were expecting mass surrender in the southern areas, now they are launching scuds, setting oil wells on fire, etc.
To: Freedom'sWorthIt
THey are asking if they knew Saddam was in the compound .. Rummy says they had very good intellegence the High leadership was there but not exactly that Saddam was there
Then they asked how did he know .. bascially Rummy said .. I'm not telling .. LOL
Seems like a lot of the same stupid questions they usually ask

Would to God it were true. However, the General just said this will be difficult. Doesn't sound like it's almost over. I hear you and I heard Myers too. Still, they have to say that sort of thing.
Too many odd things...like that "surgical strike" which is ballyhooed as having hit its target. Also, over 14 hours after the deadline we haven't used "shock and awe" and face it, there's been very little ammo vollying from the Iraqi side.
I think the US is as we type wheeling and dealing with what's left of the Iraqi army.
I could be wrong. Hell, I'm probably wrong because all night I'm telling myself...NAH, it really couldn't all come down this easily, could it? Still, until I see "shock and awe" I'm sticking to my theory.

I love Rummy. He lets them know real quick who's in charge here.
To: Freedom'sWorthIt
I pray to God that Leaky Leahy and other anti Bush/anti war jealots privy to intellgence take Rummy's advice NOT TO JEOPARDIZE THE LIVES OF OUR FIGHTING FORCES by opening their mouths and revealing what they should NOT.
