Okay... them make him a citizen.

My Dad was drafted 3 months after he arrived in the US in 1955, so this is not some new rule. In fact both he and my uncle (mother's side) were proud and honored to be asked to serve, it allowed them to become citizens in a much shorter period of time. What right do you have to impugn the motives of someone who obviously loves this country enough to defend it.

Non-US citizens should not be members of the US armed forces -- period.Well, isn't that special!
You would keep such unworthy folks as Rick Rescorla out of the US armed forces.
If you don't know who Rick Rescorla was...perhaps you should educate yourself before reopening your pie hole.

I've served with some very honorable men who were not yet citizens, and am glad to do so again. One guy in my current batallion is in the process of becoming non-french, and he is a great guy and a valuable assett.

Agreed. This is how our enemies infiltrate our insititutions.
Don't forget, two soldiers with Hispanic last names sabotaged more than 18 parachutes at a base and some soldiers were hurt by it.

Non-US citizens should not be members of the US armed forces -- period. Does that go for John Paul Jones too?
To: CaptIsaacDavis
joining the armed forces is considered a good thing for immigrants applying for citizenship. The wait is shortened from five years to three.
The close nature of the armed forces would make it difficult for a "sleeper" to join and then wreck havoc.

You didn't go far enough!
No one should be allowed in the U.S. Military that can't prove
at least four ancestors with Rev War service. {/sarcasm}

Non US citezens have fought and died for this country from day 1! You are wrong on this. They are the epitome of the American Dream. They love the US enough to defend it without citezenship. Too bad alot of natural born Americans dont have the balls to do so!! Semper Fi.

Why not?
I don't think anyone is advocating a foreign legion, but there are plenty of legal immigrants who aren't (yet) citizens who'd be proud to help defend their adopted country. You think they're not good enough?

Non-US citizens should not be members of the US armed forces -- period. Just remember, it wasn't the USMC that let the 9/11 hijackers slip into the US and remain long after they should have booted out, it was INS.
To: CaptIsaacDavis
Why would you say that? I know some foreign-born folks who are more patriotic than many "native" Americans. I used to know a NUMBER of them in the Marine Corps. They make the best kind of citizen, for they have already demonstrated a willingness to protect a society not yet theirs. Your attitude definitely needs some work...

Non-US citizens should not be members of the US armed forces -- period.I disagree. I was in the Air Force for 20 years, and knew quite a few non US citizens. One was an E-6, who got his degree, his citizenship, and a commission as an Air Force officer.

I don't think the U.S. military is going to abandon over one hundred and fifty years of practice to satisfy you. Can you think of a better way to inculcate an immigrant with the American ethos than service in the U.S. military?

How could a non-citizen even be accepted at any of our armed forces? That's not kosher, to say the least. Don't think it could be possible.

Non-US citizens should not be members of the US armed forces -- period One of my late father's closest friends during his twenty-eight years in the United States Army was a colleague who had escaped the Russian suppression of Hungary in 1956 and later became a U.S. citizen while serving as an officer in the United States Army. This was a man who understood what the USA meant!
I guess that means my ancestors who fought in the War of Independence should not have fought since they were still English?
