PM says Canada will not fight in Iraq
CBC News ^ | 3/17/03

Posted on 03/17/2003 11:47:25 AM PST by areafiftyone

OTTAWA -

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien said Monday that Canada will not go to war against Iraq.

He said the government would only support military action if there were a United Nations Security Council resolution, and the Council backers of an attack decided Monday to withdraw their resolution.

Without a resolution, "Canada will not participate," Chrétien said to cheers in Parliament.

The U.S. and Britain, which has been seeking suport for the resolution, withdrew it when it became clear that it did not have enough backing to pass.

Exagerrating. Anti Americanism isn't 'ALL OVER' Canada. A certain amount of our immigrants and our Universities I would agree. But the majority of Canadians love Americans. We may have differences with them, but we love them as brothers.

Well, it is your government that never misses an opportunity to demean this country. One member even likens us as bastards or some such. We are to just ignore such, it gets tiresome having your people bad mouth us every step of the way to the world.

We are an ugly and surly lot but we always consider Canada as family. That relationship is strained.

The area from which I come from is bad for anti-Americanism, which is neither Ontario nor Quebec.

I would assume the same could be said in areas all over Canada.

You've got plenty of work to do......yourselves.

My apologies to our conservative Canadian brothers. Please try to maintain a thick skin against those who speak first and think later.
I live in California home of the mighty FreeRepublic.
We can't seem to get the socialist yoke off our necks either.
Please bear with us as we vent our anger at yet another realization that the world has changed.
Not having Canada with us is a greater blow then France or Germany could ever be.
Thankfully Australia is on board.

chretien, Canada's uncrowned monarch The original vision of Confederation was not what we see today...a dictatorship by the prime minister and his staff...

Chretien, Canada’s uncrowned monarch
Between elections, a prime minister can now dictate his will to both cabinet ministers and Parliament
by Mike Byfield
Oxford American Dictionary
Democracy: government by the whole people of a country, especially through representatives whom they elect.

Dictator: 1. a ruler who has unrestricted authority... 2 a person with supreme authority in any sphere, one who dictates what is to be done.
Suppose Canada’s prime minister decided to appoint an ordinary citizen to his Cabinet. That naive freshman, says political analyst Donald Savoie, would be shocked to learn how government in this country actually operates. “Canadians believe that their elected representatives exercise decisive authority, but they are wrong,” comments Professor Savoie, who holds the Clement-Cormier chair in economic development at the University of Moncton. In 1999, he stunned Ottawa’s ruling elite with the publication of his intimately detailed book Governing From the Centre: The Concentration of Power in Canadian Politics.

I've thoroughly enjoyed every trip I've taken to Canada primarily due to the cultured civility of the citizens I've encountered - even when the needle's out, and I as an American was the target of a witty barb!

You know, I do not enjoy demonstrating such attitudes, because I am French Canadian. BUT, after forty-three years of listening to Canada's constant barrage of America-bashing...

After finding out post 9/11 just how lovey-dovey your politicos are towards Islamic facists...

After learning that Canadian authorities look the other way, while Islamic bastards violate your borders regularly...

And now this French suck-ass, son-of-a-bitch, whom you voted into office, thinks he can slip his tongue up our butts, and we're supposed to just say "Oui! Mercie, C'est ce bon!"?

Well, enough is enough! Close the borders. Sorry that will cause you distress, but maybe you'll be compelled to assassinate the French pigs that control your destinies. BTW, To all the stinking French faggots fowling up Canadian soil: I hope Quebec gets its own version of 9/11!

They didn't report the full text of what Cretin said. It was actually:

We will not fight them house-to-house,
We will not fight Saddam, that louse.
We will not fight them here nor there,
We will not fight them anywhere.
We do not like to fight Saddam,
We do not like to fight, Uncle Sam.

That is a horrible thing to say.
As I have done several times in the past I apologize profusely for the moron that runs our country. Why punish us all for that idiot we have no control over? We citizens don't get to vote directly for the Prime Minister. If we did he surely would not be in power. Close the borders and wishing us the horror of 9/11 is the type of narrow minded insensitive bullshit response that hurts us all.
My brothers are US citizens and I live in Canada and are the grandchildren of RAF veterans who stormed the beaches of Dieppe. They fought with you guys and would be ashamed that our country is not standing with you now. Thank goodness they are dead and not here for this. As for your cursing us you made a fool of yourself.
