It is not uncommon for 15 and 16 year-olds to marry where I live. Usually there isn't such a large age difference tho'.

That slime bucket who allowed her to suffer so, allowed that family to suffer so, and attempted to strip her of her indentity so as to fit this little piece of innocent flesh into his filthy dreams needs to be hurt. And so does his filthy wife-the grown-up one.

I could't agree more. The adult perps in this should be hung for kidnapping as the Bible prescribes.

Utah has very strict laws in regards to bigamy. Brian David Mitchell was married to Wanda Barzee, if he "married" Elizabeth in some bizarre ritual, he will just face more jail time.

With parental consent?

Stand by. I'll find the law. I think this is going to be a long thread!

But then, as Afronaut observed on another not so smart "Smart" thread (quote from memory) "20,000 posts from the Oprah crowd!"

Yikes, I was wrong. From usmarriagelaws.com

Utah law states that marriage at the age of 18 years and above does not require parental consent. For those aged 16-17, parental consent is necessary. For those 15 years old, the following requirements must be met:

• Parental consent must be obtained.

• Approval from Juvenile Court is necessary. The court must conclude that the marriage is voluntary and in the best interests of the minor.

BUT ANYWAY: THEY'RE CHILDREN!!! A knife, a gun, a monster in my closet, she was a scared little 9 yr old girl! And have you ever seen the wild discrepancies in adult witness accounts of crimes?

It is an issue because the family has said she NEVER wavered in her story and description of the man. They repeated this over and over.

Not odd at all. MK mistakenly saw a gun in the darkness.

She also gave a description of the man (in the darkness) and never wavered on it. All the time she said "HAIRY" but the police locked up a non-hairy guy. They probably thought she was dead and better to have a dead suspect than a live fugitive.

Looks like a FBI agent would know enough about the law to know that a minor can't enter into a legal contract

Not quite right. Minors can enter into legal contracts; however, the minor always has the option to disaffirm the contract if she so chooses, up until she becomes of age (in most states, the day before her 18th birthday). She can often even disaffirm after her 18th birthday, assuming she hasn't done or said anything indicating that she wishes to be bound by the contract.

So, for example, if I entered into a contract with a minor, I can't make the argument that the contract is void because the other party was a minor. The contract is perfectly valid unless the minor disaffirms it.

I remember one thing in particular. That Patty Hearsts father or grandfather was a very powerful media mogul. And in her fathers newspapers they said she was brainwashed. Is that one of the facts you're talking about?
