Sorry..... but they're not telling us .....

If that's true,I hope the law is soon changed. Kidnappers are the scum of the Earth, and put the parents of the children they steal through a living hell. It is a ultimate crime. Unfortunately the Supreme Court held in Coker v. Georgia (1977) that the death penalty for rape violated the Eighth Amendment (cruel and punishment). I think that kidnapping is covered under the ruling.

**Can you refer me to a module or lesson on brain washing? Thanks in advance.**

Also search Stockholm Syndrome.
Roy Masters is an expert on Brainwashing/Hypnotism
and actually devotes his life to unhypnotizing people from everyday hypnotic events (aka Post Tramatic Stress Syndrome)

. . . they may have checked her out to see if her hymn was intact. What hymn? "I once was lost, but now am found. . . ."
Sorry. Just a bit of humor there. No flames, please. :-)

another reason her cheeks were red may be due to having that cloth over her face... She is fair skinned. I noticed that her mother also has had the same thing in the past... real rosy cheeks.
As far as the Mormons about if she pregnant - I have no idea I am not a Mormon, actually I have no true religion status. My guess is that the family may keep the baby if she is... I do believe that she ID with these people to some extent and may feel some compassion towards them.

I know I know - I am 37 years old and had one a LONG time ago... I should know how to spell it! - no hard feelings about the hymen hymn thing... ;-)

Another example of this would be marrying someone to keep them from testifying against their "spouse" in a criminal case.I just saw an episode of "Law & Order" that covered that, but the couple there would have gotten away with it but one of them turned on the other and filed for divorce.

My wife and son (a missionary) are Mormon so I study a lot of their history.
IF, she has a baby and says she went willingly, I think the kidnap case falls apart.
I so happy she's well, but I really wonder ..... what next?
UT did put a guy away recently that was married to several willing women. He got 5 years I think.

14 is NOT the age on consent in UT:
76-5-401. Unlawful sexual intercourse.
A person commits unlawful sexual intercourse if, under circumstances not amounting to a violation of section 76-5-402 [rape], section 76-5-402.1 [rape of a child], or section 76-5-405 [aggravated sexual assault], that person has sexual intercourse with a person, not that person's spouse, who is under sixteen years of age.
Unlawful sexual intercourse is a felony of the third degree except when at the time of intercourse the actor is no more than three years older than the victim, in which case it is a class B misdemeanor. Evidence that the actor was not more than three years older than the victim at the time of the intercourse shall be raised by the defendant.
(as last amended by Chapter 88, Laws of Utah 1983)
That makes much more sense.

John... Kidnapped or Not does not matter...
If he touched her - then he probably did it enough over the last 9 months to put him away for life even if she allowed him to have sex with her. It is an age thing...since he was sooooo much older than her. Even if Mom & Dad caught him in bed with her under their own roof and they can prove how many times he had sex with her and she pleaded with her parents not to turn him in. In Utah it is a minimum of 5 years on each count. This creep will be in prison along time. I bet ol'Wanda cuts a deal and spills her guts for a shorter sentence. Also if she laid a finger on Liz in a sexual way... she may actually get more time than him. Sex between same sexes is a BIG illegal NO NO in Utah no matter what age. Also if he did not have just normal intercourse with her then he will face charges on those offenses to.

Elizabeth turned 15 while captured.

His use of the word "marriage" "mainstreams" the criminal act committed by the kidnapper. He should have said "Elizabeth became her captors slave",not his wife.
According to the NOW Nags it's the same thing....

Sorry, I got on late.

You are correct, age of consent to sex in most states tends to be higher than age of consent to marriage (though for a dozen different reasons mentioned on this thread, ES was in no position to consent to either).
Not every shotgun wedding involves a pregnancy.
It's rumored that a prominent NBA star married his 17 year old girlfriend because her parents were threatening to press charges for statutory rape.

Wow, UT law on this subject is really complex. That 16-17 year old part was passed in 1998.
To: Fred Mertz
Brainwashing is a lot like getting knocked unconscious with one punch the way it happens in the movies. That is, not nearly as easy as you have been led (brainwashed?) to believe.

To: John Jamieson
That's ok... People keep saying it is 14 years old - blah blah blah... and I have been trying to spread word that it actually 18 -
read this link I posted - it even has a story about a case involving a 17 year old who consented to having sex with a much older man. Plus all the UTAH statues on Age of Consent (means age to consent for unmarried intercourse - and has nothing to do with consent of marriage)
