FoxNews Alert just reported that Iraqi troops have left Baghdad with heavy artillary and are heading south to the Kuwaiti boarder. More troops with SCUD missle launchers are heading west. The thought is that Saddam is about to attack our troops.
This is breaking news and details are few and far between.

A good time for MOAB to be tested. With an encore performance over Paris, since they are aiding and abetting Iraq.

Saddam and Bush have different victories of victory. Saddam has managed to stave off his own death since November now. Iraq is now receiving the full support of a very vocal but quite small community of peace activists around the world. He is in a much better position than he probably hoped to be on.
On the other hand Bush would've hoped for 1441 to be the final resolution. Instead he is still playing around with the UN. Plus, Turkey has yet to allow American troops in, and France is raising a stink.

Could this fit? It could if the threat assessment is high enough. I don't think Saddam has any troops to waste on an offensive, but you have to take every action by him very seriously.

FoxNews is now reporting that US Military officials have confirmed that Iraqi troops are indeed heading south in possition for what "could" be a preempitive attack on our troops. This is what triggered 12 Destroyers and FastAttack Submarines to be moved from the Med. to the Red Sea.

Seriously, how do we go about getting the inspectors out without tipping our hand? I would suspect there is some sort of system or "notification network" in place. A red telephone perhaps?? :^)

The only way to get the inspectors out is to slip a note stating that they are about to stumble onto a mother-lode of WMD. That should send them hauling ass, ears covered, eyes closed, and mouths pursed tightly. Or we could just send word to the inspectors ans say you know all those WMD that saddam says he doesn't have, well he is about to start using them!

Its not hitting US troops in Kuwait that would cause a nuke attack, its "Isreal."

Specific new evidence indicates that Iraqi activity in the Western desert shows the strong likelihood Scud missiles are hidden there. These missiles could easily reach Israel carrying chemical or biological warheads which could draw Israel into any war.
Detailed new intelligence from the southern Iraqi oil fields shows that many of the 700 wells have now been wired with explosives. These explosives appear to be connected to a central command post, so Saddam could easily set the wells ablaze.
Near the border with Kuwait, where 135,000 U.S. troops are now stationed, recent surveillance indicates Iraqi artillery batteries have been moved dangerously close. The artillery is capable of firing shells filled with poison gas.
The United States is now considering moving against all three of these targets before any war begins in an effort to prevent Saddam from acting first, sources told ABCNEWS.

Brokaw on NBC reported that chemical-capable artillery was deploying "within range" of Kuwait, and that "surface-to-surface" missle-launchers are being deployed in western Iraq. This was over an hour ago. (about 0640 EST)Yep. Saw that. Said the western missles could easily hit Israel with chemical weapons. Drones could spread stuff in Kuwait with massive casualties if the winds were correct......

Instead of 12 destroyers and SSNs why didnt we just send ONE SSBN?? That would have taken care of the problem. But then again maybe we have......

Well I do hate to be mean but you know in wartime sometimes you just can't get a call thru, you can try and try and for some reason the lines are just dead. Sorry, so very sorry.

"Seriously, how do we go about getting the inspectors out without tipping our hand? Do you think the special ops guys might slip in and secure the compound. Once secured, it's bombs away!" I read somewhere the other day that they said they could be out on two hours notice.

The "no fly" zones apply to aircraft and such. I don't think ground troops and artillery are covered.
However, I will defer to someone with more expertise on the subject.
The Threatening Storm gave a me a very clear impression that the NFZ was designed to protect Iraqis from Saddam's military; moving his army into these areas is a definite No No. I hope someone will supplement my understanding, if necessary.

Considering that every "unannounced" inspection was preceded by Iraqis scurrying about trying to hide the more-obvious of the evidence at each site, I'm not so sure it's either possible or desirable.

Yeah, I got a little ahead of myself when the FoxNews Alert said exactly what I posted.
But the reports are accurate and now confirmed by both Iraq and US military sources.

"I hope some nation has not sold him a nuclear tipped warhead!"
Amen! Something along this line, combined with a massive "death ride" assault to cause maximum casualties and disruption, is really the only chance Saddam has. He is not a fool, but he has demonstrated many times that he is not fully in contact with reality. He pays close attention to the fifth column in the West, and this is interpreted in terms of the standard post Vietnam leftist paradigm. There is no doubt at all that he overestimated their influence in 1990, and did not truly believe that the West would resort to war.
He could well believe that massive casualties would bring down the Bush administration. After all, he hears that many Americans, including "noted leaders" like Ramsey Clark (actually a moonbat conspiracy theorist), have called for Bush's impeachment. Clark, btw, is Saddam's legal counsel in the United States and his views may have a certain influence on the Iraqi dictator. Saddam may also have heard that sons of Goebbels speakers at pro-terrorist peace rallies have said that he is more legitimate than George Bush since he, Saddam, "was at least elected." Thanks to the peace movement, he probably overestimates the effect of his propaganda, and may therefore overestimate his own chances of survival.
Saddam knows that a first strike is a poor chance, but he may believe that success is not impossible, and it is the only one he has.
