The battle over President Bush's nomination of Miguel Estrada to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit casts a deadly cloud of partisan gridlock over the future of candidates who want to serve as judges on the nation's highest courts.

The Democrats think they can get away with this because
they think the Amerian people aren't paying attention. Hah!
Keep the calls and letters coming! Tommy's getting heat at home:
South Dakota Senators To Tom Daschle: Stop Obstructing the Estrada Nomination .
Toll free for Sen. Graham in Fla.: 1-866-418-9569
Janet Parshall is providing this easy, free way to Fax our Senators Re. Miguel.
The Senators are paying attention to the big city newspapers. This Miami Herald
editorial is excellent, and the "e-mail (to a friend)" link will allow you to send off the editorial to multiple Senators.
Just cut and paste the following list to the "To:" box.

Here may be another reason why the RATS are not letting this happen. They know that they will not be in a majority for at least 6 more years and it is possible that after the next election they could be a minority till 2010. That is a long time to depend on 51 in floor votes.

I really like Senator Coleman so far. From what I've heard him say on the floor, Minnesota should be proud. All of the GOP freshman have done well so far.

Norm is an outstanding person. His energy seems to know no bounds and his star is destined to rise even higher.
I think the more you hear from him, the more you will like him even more.

Coleman gets it. Unfortunately, Mark Dayton, our socialist Senator from MN, doesn't see it the same way. I e-mailed him through his website expressing my displeasure over the filibuster. I just got a lovely form letter back from him today. Here is the Democrats' party line:
"I intend to vote against Mr. Estrada's nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals, because of my concern of his veracity and his lack of any previous judicial experience...
"I have reviewed portions of the Judiciary Committee hearings, and I can assure you that Minnesotans would not have elected me to the Senate, if I had refused to answer such basic questions, as did Mr. Estrada..." blah blah blah
Please feel free to freep my esteemed Senator Dayton and let him know what the U.S. public thinks about Mr. Estrada's qualifications. His Minnesota office number is 888-224-9043, his Washington number is (202) 224-3244.

Unfortunately, Mark Dayton, our socialist Senator from MN Welcome fellow Minnesotan.
You've quickly discovered that there is no reasoning with Mark "special interest" Dayton.
He now worships at the "Altar of Wellstone" and continues to do more harm than good for our state. Norm on the other hand is a breath of fresh air, and I hope that his election is a sign that Minnesotans are beginning to "wake up and smell" the socialism that Wellstone and Dayton espouse.
PS:
Any chance you can make the Rally at the capital on 3/22?

Unfortunately, no. I would LOVE to. We're starting a family vacation to see the relatives in Tennessee on the 21st. Wave the flag for me!

Why it's so important to have at least one GOP senator in every state. Editorials are useful to the cause.

My email to W:
Dear President Bush, With the Surpeme Court session getting ready to close, it may well be time for perhaps the most important domestic decision of your presidency: the appointment of a Supreme Court Justice(s). The main reason why I supported you in 2000 and why I wanted Daschle out of power in 02 (and 04) has to do with the courts. I want America courts to interpret law, not write law. During your presidential campaign you said Thomas and Scalia were your two model justices. Those are excellent models. The High Court needs more like them. Clarence Thomas recently said to students that the tough cases were when what he wanted to do was different from what the law said. And he goes by the law. This should be a model philosophy for our justices. Your father, President Bush lost his reelection campaign for 3 main reasosn, as far as I can see. 1. he broke the no new taxes pledge 2. David Souter 3. Clinton convinced people we were in a Bush recession (which we had already come out of by the time Clinton was getting sworn in)
I urge you to learn from all three of these: 1. on taxes, you're doing great. Awesome job on the tax cut. 2. good job so far on judicial appointments. I want to see more of a fight for Estrada, Owen, and Pickering, but I commend you on your nominations. 3. by staying engaged in the economic debate you'll serve yourself well
I have been thoroughly impressed with your handling of al Queida, Iraq, and terrorism. You have inspired confidence and have shown great leadership.
But I want to remind you that your Supreme Court pick(s) will be with us LONG after you have departed office. I urge you to avoid the tempation to find a "compromise" pick. Go for a Scalia or Thomas. Don't go for an O'Connor or Kennedy. To be specific, get someone who is pro-life. Roe v Wade is one of the worst court decisions I know of, and it's the perfect example of unrestrained judicial power.
I know the temptation will be tremendous on you to nominate a moderate. But remember who your true supporters are. I am not a important leader or politician. I am "simply" a citizen who has been an enthusiatic supporter of you. I am willing to accept compromise in many areas of government but I will watch your Court nomiantions extremely closely. What the Senate Dems are doing right now is disgusting, but as the President you have the bully pulpit to stop it. Democrats will back down if you turn up serious heat on them.
Moreover, I think public opinion is shifting towards the pro-life position. Dems will want you to nominate a moderate, but almost all will vote against you anyways. Pro-choice Repubs will likely still vote for you if you nominate a Scalia, after all, you campaigned on it. So Mr. President, I urge you to stick with your campaign statements and nominate justices who believe in judicial restraint, like Scalia and Thomas.
Happy Memorial Day and may God bless you and your family.
