Awaiting detailed info on upcoming CT Pro-Troop rallies!
Are there other groups that we can coordinate with?
In the meantime I'm posting this article from 3/12 Hartford Courant- Page 1 of the "LIFE 3/12" section.

Perhaps we should plan to show up at Bushnell park this SAT 1PM (see 2nd to last paragraph)? (If we don't have our own rally organized by then?)
Sorry if not approp to post article here....it was so very, very detailed that I could not resist. How do we get this kind of publicity?

Peace Rallies Planned For `Trigger Day'
If Bombs Start Flying In Iraq, Protesters Plan To Mobilize
March 12, 2003
BY TOM CONDON, COURANT STAFF WRITER
Some are calling it "Day X," "The Trigger Date" or simply "Invasion Day." Whatever it's called, if the day comes that the United States commences a war in Iraq, the anti-war movement will respond immediately here and across the country.

National anti-war groups such as United for Peace & Justice are urging citizens, on invasion day, to take part in marches or demonstrations; join campaigns of civil disobedience; walk out of high school or college classes; call in sick to work; build "peace encampments" in front of federal office buildings or on university campuses for teach-ins.

At least some of those activities will take place in Connecticut.

If the bombs fly, peace rallies or vigils will take place in most communities in the state, said Marsha Morris of the Connecticut chapter of the American Friends Service Committee.

The largest demonstration in the central part of the state will be in either Hartford or West Hartford, depending on the day of the week that the war commences. If it's during the week, the demonstrators will meet in Old State House Square. Timing is tied to commuting hours.

Should the war begin before 4 p.m., participants will gather at 4 p.m. and again at 7:30 a.m. the next morning. If the hostilities begin after 4 p.m., protesters will meet at 7:30 a.m. the next morning at the Old State House and again at 4 p.m. that day.

If the war begins on a weekend, when downtown Hartford is largely empty, the rally will take place in West Hartford Center, which has been the site of Saturday peace vigils for much of the winter.

Another large rally will take place in Middletown on the green, with the timing a bit different. If the public is notified before 7 p.m. that day, the rally will take place the next day from 4:30 to 9 p.m. If the community learns of the war after 7 p.m., the rally will take place two days hence. So, if CNN reports the attack at 8 p.m. on a Monday, the rally will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The rallies will include speeches by public officials and clergy, plus music, petitions, disaster-relief fund-raising and other activities.

On the first Sunday after the war, there'll be a statewide demonstration at the Capitol, she said.

Morris said some form of civil disobedience was being planned, but declined to elaborate. She said a coalition of 35 peace groups from around the state is still planning "trigger date" actions, and said some issues were still being worked out. For example, she said there are still discussions over whether to start rallies when the president announces war has begun, or when the bombs start exploding.

Also, rallies on college campuses will be largely contingent on whether the attack begins while students are on spring break. For example, if the war begins in the next two weeks, Yale students will be gone and no rallies are expected, said university spokeswoman Dorie Baker.

Some high school and college students left class to protest the war on March 5, but Morris said no similar action has thus far been planned for the day the war begins.

Meanwhile, vigils and rallies will continue as long the current cold war continues. A rally is planned Saturday at 1 p.m. in Bushnell Park, which coincides with the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

On the following Saturday there will be a Sing-In for Peace at 12:30 p.m. in West Hartford Center, after the weekly vigil. A "Drumming for Peace" event is being planned for the following week, Morris said.

Tom Condon says.... "vigils and rallies will continue as long the current cold war continues. A rally is planned Saturday at 1 p.m. in Bushnell Park..."
This is a cold war? Please recall Race's sign from a NYC rally, "one embassy, two world trade towers, one pentagon, one Cole" (to paraphrase). Dig that sign out, Race!

..what is wrong with Communist groups leading peace movements?"

Well, I guess that says it all. Sounds as if she is of one mind with most of the media. She did, however, write a fair and balanced article, though. (I saw the posting of it.)

Holy cow...a rally in Middletown. My parents' house is there.

I really hope there's some kind of pro-troop rally coming up in CT! I know I'll be there in a minute!

Think about this: Would the military really tell when they were going to attack?
