LOL. Powell: We see instance after instance of Iraq providing false evidence. R400 bombs. Report says during 1992 Iraq changed the declaration on the quantity it produced. Claims 1200 in 1992, and finally admitted in 1995 it was closer to 1550 bombs.

Actions Iraq has been asked to take could have been done over the last 12 years and how can we rely on assurances now, based on their solid record of lying.

Powell....1550 bombs confirmed in 1995? UNSCOM did NOT calculate the total number of bombs....report is proved impossible to verify....cannot discount the possibility that some bombs (filled) remain in Iraq....actions that Irawq could take.....provide more supporting documentation, inventory for R400 bombs.....explain the coding system...provide credible evidence that the bomb line stopped after 1990....the question that leaps

these are issues that iraq was asked to take MANY TIMES OVER THE PRECEDING 12 years.....how can we rely on assurances now, in the presence of this solid record of lying and deceit in the past years....could have been cleared up...

We've been down this road before...Mar 1998....he responded with promised to provide inspectors at that time...the then chief reported a new spirit of cooperation and we ....know there was no progress on disarmament..and 9 mo later inspectors had to withdraw....
