...Stephen Pollard writes in The Telegraph that the U.S. (and Britain?) may stage a U.N. walkout if the obstructionists carry the day at the Security Council:
Well-connected advisers tell me that if, as now seems likely, the UN refuses to back action against terror, Mr Bush will announce a "temporary" suspension of America's membership, to be accompanied by an offer: if the UN gets its act together and carries out long-overdue reforms, America (and its money) will return. But if there is no reform, the temporary withdrawal will, de facto, become permanent.

First we'll appoint Bob Dornan the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N....
I could not agree more.

I predict the French and other anti-American countries, like Syria, Libya, etc. will declare GW and war criminal. LOL!! Wish they would. I would love to attack them, too.

No, no, and again no! We are capitalists. We merely need to raise the rent. Charge them "fees" to cover "security costs" for every service related to the UN - every pizza delivery, every fedex delivery, every bottle of snooty french mineral water delivered. To about $10B per annum.

Powell, Bush and Rove have brass ones the size of walnuts if they can make this stick...

Give the current residents one week to vacate with US Marshals at the ready to oversee the eviction. .....
Remember Pat Moynihan?Only time I agreed with him was when he said he would like to be on the docks waving as the UN sailed away. Yesss! What a wonderful picture!

Would we be a 'rogue nation' in the UN's eyes with Libya on the Human Rights Comission if we walk out?

Yep, their precious fantasy called the U.N. will wither and die without U.S. funding. That's the key to it all; pull the funding and they can vote for whatever they please cause they won't have the money to do anything with it. They'll just be another boring, has-been socialist debating society.

I am so proud of our President. He is not going to back down from the pursuit of terrorists no matter what the UN does or does not do. In my opinion, we can leave the UN to the despots it is reeking with, and never look back. I say send the Hollywood crowd in there and they can all hate America together.

You just made me spit milk through my nose with appointing B-1 Bob Dornan as 'Temporary Negotiator' to smooth over our self declared suspension from the UN..

No. just have the present ambassador be given another spot and let it be done without naming a successor in advance. Or nominate a Democrat but not include him in cabinet. Or name Bono.

Didnt' work very well for Soviet delegate, Andre Vyshinsky.
He walked out of the UN, and then the Soviets were unable to veto the UN's sending troops to Korea.

America (and its money) Sounds fair to me. Why pay for a dead horse? Take our cash and leave. I'm suprised it took this long, actually, for the US to pack it's UN bags. I'd have left years ago.
I like it!
Can we take back our N.Y. U.N. building , too?

Man this is great, am I in a dream?
I would get the ex-NYPD Chief under Rudy to fumigate/start evicting tenants from the UN Complex and turn it into the Yankees new offices.

Yes, I was over at the Telegraph reading the original article.
I'm not sure what to think. I doubt this report is something the Administration wanted to leak, yet it's the logical conclusion of the Bush strategy at the UN. It does little good to prove the UN irrelevant, yet pretend afterward that it is by continuing business as usual.
But, it's not something that would be a good thing to reveal publicly before the vote. Privately, perhaps. Not publicly.

we must destroy united nations building after it is evicted from U.S soil. this building is full of evil socialist thoughts that could contaminate anyone who steps into doors.
To: Dog Gone; MadIvan
It would give us leverage on the position of going it alone with the UK. (if they would do the same, or couse)

"...Mr Bush will announce a "temporary" suspension of America's membership..."
I'd like to see a "temporary" eviction of the U.N from U.S. soil.
"Temporary" as in "till-further-notice".
