...Stephen Pollard writes in The Telegraph that the U.S. (and Britain?) may stage a U.N. walkout if the obstructionists carry the day at the Security Council:
Well-connected advisers tell me that if, as now seems likely, the UN refuses to back action against terror, Mr Bush will announce a "temporary" suspension of America's membership, to be accompanied by an offer: if the UN gets its act together and carries out long-overdue reforms, America (and its money) will return. But if there is no reform, the temporary withdrawal will, de facto, become permanent.

The news hacks probably have it all wrong.
We may or may not walk out of the UN if it votes against enforcing its own resolution 1441, but rather than suspending our own memberships (a LEFTIST's wet dream), we might just veto *everything* in the UN to bring it to a standstill...
... for years.

Somehow, as much as I would like to see the UN GONE!, I think this could be a bluff in a poker game. Wonder how fast the rest of the Security Council will fold when they know GW's holding a royal flush?

"P.S. D-Day June 6, 1944, Invasion of Europe only had a total of 156,000 troops including ALL allied forces."
Very true. We landed 6 divisions on 6/6/44.
Against our 6 divisions, the NAZIs had 44 Wehrmacht divisions defending their spoils in Normandy.
Needless to say, our offensive rolled over them and never looked back. It's also easy to remember due to the date of the invasion matching the number of divisions fighting each other.

I say fat chance......I think this advisor is probably giving what he personally wants to happen, not what Bush has proposed. But, we will see. Let's hope.

Sure will kill their International Social Club won't it? What are they going to do without all that free booze and expensive meals. Look for a lot of defections to the US if this ever happens, and forgot, Chile won't get their free trade they want.

The UN's days are numbered.

It will never happen. The demonrats will come out yelling and the Republicans will sink back like cowards and won't respond with harsh rhetoric to match the demonrat's.

No reality right now please. Allow us just a few moments to imagine a world without the UN.
A world where a piss ant like France would find itself without a council seat (that we provided).. A world where the seat currently held by Russia would disappear just like the Soviet block. A world without UNESCO and the alphabet soup of other bureaucratic bloodsuckers. aaahhhhhh..... thats nice

ROTFLOL! Another hit out of the park-send the French diplomats the bill for their UN parking tickets after we evict them from the premises and fumigate the offices!

I nominate furloughing forner Rep. James 'What small animal is in my hair today' Traficant from the federal pen for a few months to negotiate with the UN about our self imposed 'suspension..'
And now that we are going to be a 'rogue nation' according to the chairman of the UN human rights committee-- Libya--, can we all wear eye patches and peg legs and talk pirate speak with tropical birds on our shoulders?

Not france, there is really no place for them to build a headquarters. I would think some other location with lots of recently leveled land. Someplace that could really use the economic boom that would come with having such a fine assembly on statesmen. Afghanistan.
