Could I be seeing something that isn't there or was I just reading between the lines during President Bush's news conference? Time and time again, I kept hearing...You better get the hell out of dodge because we're coming for Saddam and as much as we would like to prevent the loss of innocent life....you dont want to be in town when the shootin starts!

You and I were certainly watching the same thing...

He's forcing the vote in the UN. Pass or fail we're going in. Plans are in place, troops ready.... "The go ahead to Baghdad is coming within a week" is what I heard.

He repeatedly spoke of Iraq and Saddam in the past tense. The die is cast.

I have no doubt whatsoever that President Bush's reasoning and the course that he has likely chosen are both correct, but his demeanor and the cadence of his speech seemed to me to indicate the enormous weight that he must be feeling.
That said, I thank the Good Lord every night that he is in the Oval Office and ask that He continue to guide President Bush and bless and protect our service men and women..

And when asked about the cost of the war he said something like " we're about to find out very soon" or "we'll let you know very soon".
That really made my ears perk up. I think it's a done deal, very soon (then again, I thought it was "very soon" back in Feb. but look where we are now).

but his demeanor and the cadence of his speech seemed to me to indicate the enormous weight that he must be feeling. Of course they are, and then to have to endure the Ted Kennedy's of this world saying he is doing it for some personal reason is more than mortal man can conceive. That is why he is feeling our prayers very keenly.

He didn't do this kind of press conference in February. Politically and economically, he can't keep the nation thinking it is very soon for very long.
This is all coming to a head.
Now.
It will be this month. It has to be.
Last summer, I thought it would begin in February. March is close enough.

Heck, I work in an industry where you can't know if 20 programmers are going to get something done plus or minus 3 months. Thinking a war could be launched absolutely on schedule is very optimistic.

Yep! I started whistling the theme from 'High Noon' towards the end of the conference...... In Texese, what Dubya really told the U.N. was, "All right boys, lay your dix up on the bar - it's measurement time!"

Isn't it great that we have an elected official that takes his job of protecting the American people seriously? I think so! How rare given what we used to have, the "what's in it for me" poor excuse for a person.

He said he would give the media "time to get out"- any media member who isn't beating feet to the border tonight,is a fool. The Democrats will start their full throated anti American attack tomorrow-Dashy has asked Frist for floor time tomorrow to do his Tikrit Tom act.

After Blix's report tomorrow do you think we will call for a vote over the weekend or wait till next week?

Lets hope after 8 years of Clinton Rummy was able to find enough Schwartzkopf types to prosecute this thing the way it should be
Too damn many PC and politician types are in the general officer ranks . Me thinks he should have put a marine in overall command

I need to find a transcript of that part of the questioning. I wasn't listening and dh said that Bush basically told the reporter from CBS that he didn't need the UN to tell him what to do. Anybody know where a transcript of the news conference can be found?

After Blix's report tomorrow do you think we will call for a vote over the weekend or wait till next week? I think they'll spend the weekend behind closed doors arguing about the Blix report and the realpolitik issues. I would be surprised if a vote is taken before next Wednesday. I doubt it will be later than Friday of next week.

. I doubt it will be later than Friday of next week. I've heard reports that we are still waiting to see if Turkey is going to reconsider their vote on troops in their country. Either way it will take some time to position troops and equipment. It's beginning to look like April.
