You're right, but reading a commentary about Al Sharpton in the sports pages instead of on the editorial page was quite humorous. LOL.

What has been said so far that would be considered moving the ball forward on Iraq? You know, some of us can support the president and still be critical of some things he does or says.

OK, I had to be gone tonight and didn't see the live airing of the press conference. I am skimming the thread while listening to MSNBC replay it.

I got home and put Fox on and Greta Van Sustern was telling Bill Kristol that critics call President Bush a cowboy, but to her he seemed a calm, thoughtful and serious man who was not about to undertake this mission lightly.

Now, I see about 1400 more posts lie ahead for me to peruse tomorrow. But I am reading all of these "Why is he doing this press conference" and "how is he moving forward" lines from several here. As others pointed out, this is to explain to those that don't pay attention as we do why what's about to happen is going foward.

I'd say if Greta Van Sustern was impressed, he achieved his goal.

We have no opinion on your Arab - Arab conflicts, such as your dispute with Kuwait. Secretary Baker has directed me to emphasize the instruction, first given to Iraq in the 1960's, that the Kuwait issue is not associated with America."

Yep a definite cause of GFI

But not as bad as Dean Acheson speaking on behalf of the Truman administration causing the Korean War by stating that Korea and Formosa were not the the sphere of USA protection

Sad how the words of incomptents cause wars where so many lives are lost

Brit Hume has been tutoring Juan

The way Juan behaved tonight Brit must've had a tourniquet on him under the table.

Thankyou! It is a very good prayer. Let's say it again and share it with my wife. ; )

George W. Bush

Pray for our President daily
It's the right thing to do
His burdens are larger than ever
And more troubles are about to ensue

Most powerful man in the world
Sounds wonderful but it's not
For him every waking minute
The fires are burning hot

His somber mein is not an act
Lives are on the line
Much rides on his every decision
Freedom for yours and mine

So take the time to lift him up
To the One Who is over all
And he'll come through and make us proud
With the strength to fulfill his call

EV

I've got a pretty good idea that the current U.S. action in Iraq was in the works long before 9/11.

Well, given that Sadam didn't follow the resoultions and promises to disarm, I think this would be a good thing.

As for re-alignment of the world powers; we are witnessing that very event. Why be ashamed of it? I prefer to have a leader who is mindful of that, and who exercises the "power of his people" in a fair and just way.

None of that is conspiratorial in nature, any more than me paying attention to world and local events and making contingency plans. Governments are HIRED to do that on a bigger scale.

Alan Combs doesn't. He thinks we need to be attacked first before we take action.

And given that he tried to assassinate a former president of the USA Bush's father I think that was enough reason there

Funny, I couldn't disagree with you more. His performance was sincere and perfect for this episode of history. He is no cowboy.

I've got a pretty good idea that the current U.S. action in Iraq was in the works long before 9/11.

On a slightly different vein, I see that governments like to project that their actions are "perfect," and that the people come to expect "perfection." That is unrealistic, and IMO, unreasonable. With that in mind, I find it plausible that OKC, TWA 800, WTC, and other events may have been foreseen, or known after the fact, but the "powers that be" don't dare to let the public know, lest it expose the depth of imperfection.

All the easier to keep things rolling along smoothly, to paste over the roughness; but in the long run, as I opened, easy life makes for weak citizens.

The biggest difference between Vietnam and today is President Bush and Donald Rumsfield compared to LBJ and McNamara, two of the sleasiest scumbags ever to come down the pike. They never intended on winning and Bush does.

Good point! I had similar thoughts when I heard this driving home tonight.

That's why we're blaming you, and why putting blame on you is reasonable.
