So your point is that the US has had this master plan since the first Gulf War?

Juan and Mara are the resident liberals in Fox's "fair and balanced" format, but Brit is converting Juan, I think. :-)

Containment vis a vis Iraq requires a regime of a large number of troops in theater (currently almost all US and UK) that are ready to go at a moment's notice for the inspection regime to proceed at even a snail's pace. That regime is simply not sustainable. Beyond the cost, the annoyance of the host theater countries that want this over with, and the US and UK out, support in the US, and certainly the UK, will slowly erode. It is already. Time is running out.

Bomb scare. They cleared the place out because of a 'suspicious package'.

No. Are you implying that they're preparing some kind of "Heil Hitler" photo?

No .. I wasn't implying anything ..

I just happened to notice that it was very quite in the room until the President started descibing how when he put his hand on the bible he swore to uphold the constitution

All of a sudden the cameras started clicking like crazy

That's true, they don't understand. What is also not understood is that our best chance to avert war and accomplish our objectives, was to stand united with the Security Council in a global threat of force. France and Russia, in particular, eliminated our best shot at aversion all in the name of peace.

So well said it bears repeating...

I think the point (or assertion) is that the public is not well informed of the intent or plans set up by governments, even their own. The justification for public consumpotion is not necessarily the real reason behind the action. Like if sneak out of the house for a smpoke, and tell the better half you forgot something at the office.

Thanks for the info. I thought it was a great press conference. I didn't jump onto the thread until it was over. I've been reading for awhile. Good prayer. FV

"never play poker with him". You will lose. But you will still like him after he takes your wallet. He will leave you smiling then you will come back again only to be beat again.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

And the ramifications of this, over time, are heavy in that they play on the level of "trust," which is esential to a lasting relationship.

If your general point was that "best laid plans oft go aglee" (apologies to Shakespeare), I emphatically agree with that. And if you are further tarring US political leadership with being duplicitous toward the public, I emphatically agree with that as well. See, for example, the very Iraq/Kuwait relationship pre-1991 that is known by about 1 person in a thousand, in this country.

Along those lines, here's another potential bombshell for you -- I've got a pretty good idea that the current U.S. action in Iraq was in the works long before 9/11. In fact, it was directly related to that "Energy Summit" that the Bush administration hosted in early 2001, which is one of the reasons why the proceedings of that summit cannot be released to the public.

Don't get me wrong here. My point is not to lay a ton of criticism on the Bush administration these days -- I'm a Bush man through and through. I just don't have any interest in the specious "justifications" for war with Iraq that we are hearing.

It's really starting to look that way.

Yes, there is an adage in the Arab world that goes "Books are written in Egypt, published in Lebanon, and read in Iraq". The Iraqi people are generally intelligent, hard working, and nice. Been there.
