The U.S. and western Europe "staged" the Persian Gulf War in 1991 as the first step in a long process to eliminate Europe's reliance on Arab oil.

Staged???

Terry Moran re: the word "arrogant:"

Notice how Bush is referring to everyone by their first names?

Well, the Dems have already re-defined the word "filibuster". Most people would think in order to filibuster there has to be continous talking, but that is not the way it is.

I haven't heard any comments on the internet or in real life from what you refer to as "Bible thumpers" regarding Iraq or Revelations.

You're the only poster who mentioned the Bible and I'm not gonna argue with you about the entire Bible on a press conference thread. Bye. I support Winston Churchill's descendant, George W. Bush.

As one of my friends so clearly pointed out, you have to see the whole issue from 1991 to 2003 from the perspective of a foreign diplomat. The official policy of the U.S. toward Iraq has not changed from the end Bush administration through the Clinton administration, and up until today.

In an electoral system like ours where the people in office can change frequently, I think we tend to forget that the U.S. often makes plans like these that take years to develop.

Brit Hume has been tutoring Juan.....sometimes has to use tough love approach on Sunday mornings!

You make it sound like Juan is an affirmative action hire at Fox News Channel -- exta admission points for being liberal.

IMO, Gergen always has a vested interest in making the "administration" he was involved in sound like the best one every.

Sort of like Woodward and Bernstein ALWAYS showing up to say Watergate was the be all, end all scandal and never shall be surpassed.

That fat bearded guy from CBS was Mark Knoller, and I hear his WH reports every day in the car. I've always wondered what he looked like, because he has the most obnoxious pompous and breathy radio voice.

He looks as bad as I figured. He has a radio face.

More to the point, the nations in question are not doing the containing, so it is a free lunch for them.

I agree. I wasn't necessarily posting that in terms of "right" and "wrong" sides.

No. Are you implying that they're preparing some kind of "Heil Hitler" photo?

"I'll chalk up the word "containment" as another UN-speak word that looks good on paper but isn't practical in the real world."

Almost all the libs are using Clinton speak on this
issue. They make sure that in their polical rhetoric
they say things that could be assumed to be pro,
and if questioned bring the statement up.
Especially the candidates for Prez.

What was the Waldorf thing? There was a blurb on the radio but they cut it in half.

We don't watch their networks or buy their papers--

We get our truth from our own sources and our own sense.

The fifth column (fourth estate) queues up for unemployment.

It's a win-win for us and America.

If your general point was that "best laid plans oft go aglee" (apologies to Shakespeare), I
emphatically agree with that. And if you are further tarring US political leadership with
being duplicitous toward the public, I emphatically agree with that as well. See, for
example, the very Iraq/Kuwait relationship pre-1991 that is known by about 1 person in a
thousand, in this country.
