I had a fascinating conversation today with someone I know whose roots are in the Middle East. Word on the street there is that Iraq has been behind every terrorist attack against the U.S. going back to the first WTC bombing in 1993.
The "Islamic fundamentalist" angle to all of these attacks has been nothing more than a front. But the U.S. must continually allow it to be used, because it helps cover the utter incompetence and malfeasance on the part of the U.S. government over the last ten years.
The last thing American citizens want to hear is that Iraq has been carrying out low-grade guerrilla warfare inside the United States since 1993.

"Jim Angle -- days away from decision to go to war!" We'll be at war the next time we see GWB address the nation.

LOL
That was the real message of this presser. The president can have a press conference and not allow Helen to speak.
Bush does move quick when he needs to without missing a beat.
To: Ragtime Cowgirl
No Helen Thomas! Glory be!As soon as the presser was announced today I hoped that he would ignore her and, sure enough, HE DID!
PROGRAM NOTE: Everybody watch Profiles from the Front Line on ABC now. You'll be glad you did!

I have explained the waiting on at least five different threads. First, let's see what it is NOT about:
it is not about the military. The military is ready, willing, and able.
it is not about the UN. Bush knows the diplomatic route is garbage, but we do need to maintain alliances for the larger "war on terror," so he couldn't come out and call the French cheese-eating-surrender-monkeys.
So what IS it about? One of two things. If you saw the post by Mansoor Ijaz on NRO Monday, ("Brain Drain") he had a very important paragraph, where he said that the arrest of KSM and the info we were getting likely pre-empted some pretty big attacks that were supposed to happen with the onset of the war. So first, this delay has been about making sure that the "retaliatory" attacks by AQ did not occur.
Second, you have NOT heard anything about this, but I am convinced that Tom Ridge has been one of the keys, closely tied to the issue above. Perhaps Ridge knows of some expected attacks and the CIVILIAN response in the U.S. wasn't yet ready to deal with it. Obviously I don't know what specifically that might be, but I'm convinced that Homeland Security has been one of the major factors in delaying this war. As you (and STRATFOR) show, from a purely military point of view, waiting is silly.

It's crazy - until you realize that it's fundies who make the Book of Revelation and the Middle East mania their guide for foreign policy. Credibility reading now <= 0.

Why argue with a man who says that since we use containment against NK we must use containment against Iraq? That is about the most sophmoric argument I've heard from anyone here...The word simpleton comes to mind.
