First of all I would like to give thanks to the people of Free Republic for giving us a podium in which to make our voices heard. It is very important for us to get our voices heard and sometimes it feels like we are so out-numbered by those on the left. So thank you Free Republic for the opportunity. For those of you out there who agree with me, please continue to support them for that right.

But that really isn't my point. The practice of reciting the pledge, or electing not to, is by itself a fairly trivial matter. The fabric of the country will not come crashing down because it is gone, and the pledge alone would not hold us up. That said I think the pledge is on the whole, a good thing. It is at the very worst: harmless. It is a ritual that many of us remember from childhood and it is our rituals and traditions that bind us to history and connect each generation to the next. It's a heaping slice of pure Americana.

Now there are people throughout the world that wish to kill us. All of us. We are in the fight for our lives and our way of life and it is essential that we recognize that this is a fight that we can *lose*. Radical islam is a threat the likes of which we have never seen before.

Here in the middle of all this is this fringe group that actually seems to believe that it is the *pledge* that is the greater threat to home, mom and apple pie. Or that it is the Boy Scouts that truly will bring devastation to America. These people too wish to destroy traditional American culture, only more gradually. They are picking trivial matters with which to divide us and they are succeeding. These people are petty. They may have pointless little lives but they win by exhausting our will to fight every little peeve that they harp on. Acquiesence on our part is the only way to get them to just shut up and go away.

Next, I suppose they'll go after the Declaration of Independance. Shouldn't be able to recite it in school, since it [gasp] uses the word "creator".

Yes you're absolutely correct. In the minute and a half spent reciting it some child somewhere may feel "different" and certainly we can't have that, now can we? The real situation here is that it _isn't_ a great idea, let them have this one.

SNIPRadical islam is a threat the likes of which we have never seen before.

Well actually we (Christian Nations) have faced this before and we have fared well. This time we must crush them.

SNIPThey may have pointless little lives but they win by exhausting our will to fight every little peeve that they harp on. Acquiesence on our part is the only way to get them to just shut up and go away.

Well you're right, but this is where we need to pick our fights correctly. Fight Affirmative Action, but don't fight the Pledge. If you want your child (and I do) to Pledge Allegiance to the Flag, do it at home, not in school.

Did the U.N. or any of the countries involved in the U.N. give Saddam Insane the go ahead to make all those chemical weapons. Did the U.N. or any of its members give Saddam the green light to kill all of those people in his country who opposed him.

I guess they did, becausae they didn't say a word against it. But if the U.S. does anything they can't say ``no'' fast enough.''

Has anyone noticed "Matt's" shaven-head look? As Kewpie would say, "What up, Matt?"

Keep calm and turn off the idiots and their dumb chatter! Listen to Rush and read conservative logical intelligent reports and opinions rather than airheads like the ones on the Today Show. Remember it is a "SHOW" nothing more. If you really need to watch it, just watch the recipe stuff they do.

You see, others are needing to share their gripes as well. It helps to take action - send the culprit(s) a letter. I like to start a rant thread, post the e-mail address (Today@NBC.com), and invite fellow Freepers to contact the media...maybe send a whole thread.

During the Florida 2002 primaries - when the Dems. were trying to use that 'voting machine' excuse again - we collected testimonies from Florida Republicans and sent the whole long list to the Florida press..subject line "What Florida Republicans are saying." Heh. The other side...PP, NARAL, PFAW, WWF...(the VLWC) has been at this for years, but we're making a difference.

Welcome: (^:

I am certainly not Jennifer Lopez fan, but at least you don't hear her spouting off about events that she has no knowledge of or apparently interest in. (at least I have not heard her bashing Bush). I heard on her trips she has a eyebrown coordinator and a eyebrow coordinator assistant. Just thought that was kind of interesting

Census data. I believe it too. I'm not saying that there aren't filthy rich dems, or greens, or my own non-affiliateds, but by and large, if you are rich and want to stay that way, you vote GOP.

Your statement is ludicrous. If that were the reality, then Ted Turner, Ted Kennedy, 90% of Hollywierd, professional sports atheletes, etc. would be Republican. Or they don't care to retain their wealth, which I certainly do not believe to be the case. So if your statement were even remotely the truth, how would you explain so many wealthy Democrats? Not just a handful as you seem to imply, but rather large numbers.

If census data shows that the Republican Party has more money, it's only attributed to the fact that more of the middle class (middle and upper middle) belong to the Republican Party while more of the lower middle to lower classes belong to the Democratic Party. This is because the middle to upper middle class are tired of having their earnings taken from them to be redistributed, while the lower middle class and lower class are looking for something for nothing as they rarely pay any taxes at all but are usually the recipients of social programs.

Very few thinking individuals want war, but sometimes war is the only option left available. Certainly you aren't suggesting that inspections are working? If you are suggesting that, then perhaps you would like to buy this bridge I have for sale in Brooklyn.

Just to educate you, the conservative outlets you mention pale in numbers when compared to the free network T.V. outlets, newspapers, magazines, and most importantly schools (from kindergarten thru college) that promote leftist propaganda while stifling all forms of conservatism.

You take this gentleman's thanks for the military service you provided. Care to elaborate what your MOS was, when it was, and the circumstances that led to that service? What branch? What rank? What unit? And any other pertinent information you would like to share with us concerning your military duties, because I, quite frankly, doubt your veracity.

You state that we are not at war with either Kuwait or Saudi Arabia, but you fail to state that neither are we at war with Iraq. While we are poised for war we are still not at war. Saddam had the power to stop this war and he chose not to take the necessary steps to do so. Instead he tried his best to prove that we are nothing more than "paper tigers". He obviously thinks Bush is just like his predecessor, Clinton. Saddam's piddling concessions now are too little too late, but most of all they are too insincere. They are a feint to try and buy him more time, because time is the only real possibility for Saddam to retain power. Unfortunately for Saddam, he misread the fact that Bush feels, and rightly so, that he has all of the U.N. authority necessary to commit force against Saddam for non-compliance of numerous resolutions but most importantly 1441. Beyond the U.N. though he has the authority from Congress which I hold in higher authority than the U.N. when it comes to national security. While you neither agreed or disagreed that this is war for oil, perhaps you could explain why Bush didn't merely tell the U.N. that Saddam is in compliance and have the U.N. remove the sanctions imposed? That would be far less costly than going to war to seize the oil fields and it would be the easier avenue to travel down. Though Clinton has said the very same things about Saddam in 1998 that Bush is saying now, Clinton refused to act because he chose that easier avenue.

If we truly became a more self-sufficient oil-consuming nation the Middle East would then have even less to offer the world and would only condemn larger numbers of their people to exist in extreme poverty. Oh, but that is far more desirable then going to war and ridding the world of a tyrant who left to his own means would at a later date provide the world with the same problems the world now faces with a nuclearized North Korea. Another Clinton foreign policy mistake. The possibly, after Saddam has been removed, of also offering some Arabs the opportunity to taste at least some of the freedoms we enjoy is not worth the price of war. Have I got that about right?

Why do I get the feeling that your screen name is sooooo accurate?

If the Republican Party is the 'party of the rich', it can only mean 'rich in spirit' because I sure as hell am not rich in cash. I have never paid $200 for a haircut; my wife has been cutting my hair for 24 years to save the cost. If pubs are rich, then the demonazis are the party of the kumbayahs, the insolent, the arrogant, the anti-American, the delusional, the communists, the reesus monkeys (screaming), the do-gooders, the wealthy welfare minions, the aberrant, celebrecrappies, the immoral, the God-haters, the baby killers, the gun-grabbers, traitors, and seditionists. Damn you leftist SOBs! Give me my country back!

Don't watch them!!! Why do you torture yourself with these two hasbeens. They are being outFOXED and they know it but they will never change their stripes. We watch FOX all the time. They are fair and balanced and they ask anyone on their shows and they let them speak without scripted questions and pat answers.

katie and matt are like windup dolls....forget them. They will be history along with NBC as the FOX News Channel takes them over. Our female reporters there are happy and smiley and not doom and gloom looking like katie. I'm not talking about "looks and appeal" here...I am talking about smiley faces and fun who are intelligent and have the know how to bring the stories to the audience..like E.D. and Kirin and Patty Ann and others like them as opposed to the gloom and doom on ole katies face every day.

As for the men, we have Shep, John Scott, Brit and a whole host of people who are also fun, humorous and who also have the intelligence and the know how to bring the stories to the audience unlike ole matt who no doubt thinks he is the cats meow with the new hairdo and all that.

So, STOP WATCHING that other show. Watch one you can count on who will give you the straight information without all the padding and without their personal renditions of the worlds events. That's FOX News Channel. Make the switch and get the real news from real, down to earth people.
