Between songs, the pugnacious Hynde, in a classic black T-shirt and jeans, bantered and battled with the crowd. She dedicated "You Know Who Your Friends Are" to "all you junkies and f--," gave a shout-out to the late Joe Strummer, opined that she hopes the United States loses if it goes to war with Iraq ("Bring it on! Give us what we deserve!"), and introduced the song "Fools Must Die" with the self-deprecating quip, "I'll show you how it's done."

If it is her song, Rush is paying her royalties for it Radio stations pay what's called a "Needle-drop Fee." A left over term from the old days of turntables, but nonetheless, refers to licensing fees to air any and all songs covered by a particular publishing company, i.e., ASCAP or BMI.
Typically, these fees run upwards of 1/2 a million dollars per year for large market stations.
Stations must maintain logs of every song they play--and report in detail several times a year to each licensing company. Fees are distributed as royalties based on the airplay.
So Chrissy Hynde probably does get a few pennies a year, indirectly, from Rush's airplay. But the fact that it drives her insane, makes it worth every penny IMHO.

Thanks. Hence, the song... Where did you go, Ohio.

He uses a small portion of her song under fair use, and it pisses her off. As I understand it, she doesn't get a dime. Didn't he pay her a royalty at first, and then when they tried to renew the contract, she said not for a million dollars?
I remember him joking about offering her a million dollars just to see if she would jump at it.
If he is getting fair use now, all the better.

Rush needs to drop her tune from the beginning of his show (at least I thought that was the Pretenders). What a vile display.I completely argee - she shouldn't get one dime of royalty money from Rush. We need to start e-mailing Rush with this one.

Because I remember for a short time a few years ago that Rush had to use different bumper music. He explained that there was some dispute with the Pretenders over the song, maybe that a contract had expired and they had not renewed it or given him permission to use the song (I'm sorry, I just don't remember the details). At any rate he was able to go back to using the Pretenders bumper music.

If you want to know how to have a body like this at my age...
I don't know about the body, but I definitly want to know how not to have a face like that at any age. She ought to be haunting houses with that mug. I'm sure it would drive the spooks right out!

I remember that too. Didn't he have to make a contribution to PETA as a condition of getting the song back?

Once, long ago,
used to be one of my favorite songwriters. Spiritual revolution and a political evolution have since neutered her influence on my character and artistic tastes.
She is a battleship-floating alcoholic, and expatriated American. She fired a mighty fine drummer for not being black. She's a self-loathing throwback and leftist degenerate who's moral compass is permanently centered on Viet Nam. A fake punk rocker.
I love the fact Rush uses her work for bumper music. Sweet, sweet irony.
To: NYC Republican
Sad to say,but the skank is from Ohio.
To: A CA Guy
According to the report I heard, they booed her mercilessly.
To: Churchjack
Great characterization of her. Maybe a bit too nice, considering what a degenerate she's become.
To: MsGail61
Didn't he have to make a contribution to PETA as a condition of getting the song back?I don't remember that, but I can't imagine that Rush would give money to PETA just to play a song. I think he would simply change bumper music if forced to choose.

Drudge has now picked up on the story...

Yes, and she's here to save cows.
That's right, she's a militant vegitarian; an anti-meat kinda gal. And she's here to save cows.
Oy vey.
