Is Fox Losing its' magic?

Posted on 03/03/2003 8:05:01 PM PST by faithincowboys

I love Fox news, don't get me wrong, but don't you think they are fumbling the ball lately. Shep Smith really sucks-- he has been anti-Bush lately. Shep quoted Howell Raines' boy Nicholas Krstoff the other day. Doesn't it look like Hannity wants to beat up Shep every afternoon when Shep says some anti-Bush BS? Also, O'reilly pissed me off a couple of weeks ago when he went after Lynne Cheney like she was Hillary. Funny how the liberal pundits treat the evil Hill like she walks on water, and the so-called conservative O'Reilly was a pit bull with Cheney's wife. Anybody else notice this?

Fox is useless if it is not both objective and skeptical, of everyone. Conservatives in government need to be kept honest like every other politician -- isn't it better done by media who are editorially aligned with basic conservative goals, than by media who are harshly opposed? Any criticism which Fox can make, NPR can make ten times worse, and with far more dubious motives.

You are preaching to the choir so when you get flamed you will know one person is on your side -- me!

Fox is also having trouble with credibility sometimes in their news stories. They would do better to not try to beat everyone and get their facts straight!

During the day recently I have turned to MSNBC for news which pains me to say except half of MSNBC is now over on Fox!

I don't have Fox News at this college. In any event, I get 99% of my news online.

Both of you are nitpicking. Mom, you've still got a wedgie over Major Garrett's reporting last Thursday over the wimpy talk of some Republicans. He quoted Hatch, he quoted Santorum. No "context" was need for remarks that sounded defeatist. If this is your evidence of "getting their facts straight," why don't you ask the two Senators quoted why they said what they said? You may not like Garrett's quoting their caught-off-guard statements, but they did say what he quoted them as saying.

As for our "newbie" here, FOXNEWS is not a "conservative" channel. It is "fair and balanced," and is still heads and shoulders above the rest.

You, and Mom, are free, of course, to scrape the bottom of the barrel and watch CNN or MSNBC, if you wish.

Yes, I sure did notice it and Mrs. chaney like the intellectual, educated refined lady she is handled it beautifully. I can't imagine what brought O'Reilly to behave in such a churlish manner with the VP's wife, who as far as I can tell has done nothing to warrant the pit bull approach. Hillary who has an attack coming in spades skates through all interviews. Go figure? It didn't make Bill look any larger.

I agree. What good is Fox if it doesn't habitually bend over and lick the feet of Saint Bush our God and conservatives everywhere? After all, we know that Fox isn't really supposed to be "fair and balanced"; that's just a facade to fool its liberal critics. We know that its real purpose is to pander to us depressed and underexposed conservatives. Damn good journalism and objectivity, just so long as it's not the liberal media.

On a more serious note, I consider Fox News nearly as bad and unwatchable as the liberal media. Just because I'm a conservative doesn't mean I'd rather watch news with a disgusting conservative bias than a disgusting liberal bias. And please don't deny to me that Fox has a conservative bias. I recognize it just as well as I recognize a liberal bias in everything else. I also hate its screen graphics, music, format, and many of its anchors/analysts.

Yes. Fox is become arrogant and overbearing. That have lost their focus and are trying to be the People Magazine of TV. O'Reilly is covering more and more crap designed for sweeps week. IMHO Fox News has peaked. It's all downhill from here.

Yeah, I love Lynne Cheney--she is smart and tough. If the liberal media didn't store their heads in their backsides,
they would heap all the adoration they give to Hillary on Lynne and Laura. O'Reilly looked like a turd in that interview. But whaddya expect from a guy whose hero is Bobby Kennedy? Hello?!? O'Reilly couldn't shine the shoes of the man who shines Brit Hume's shoes.

"Magic"? What "Magic"? It's a CABLE TV CHANNEL, not some kind of TV morale ministry. Pull yourself together, friend!

(Better yet: why not turn off the TV and go outside every now and then -- you're sitting too close to the Tube. Those rays really will burn your eyes out...)

My only complaint with FNC is that they don't show that cute Patty Anne Browne enough.

Brit and his eccentric gang shine like a bright star in the news/commentary galaxy. It's the only FOX news show I rarely miss.

technically, phikapmom and I witnessed some reporting errors.. we were speculating that 'maybe' there is a new person working in the room ...who is failing to confirm some of it's reports before they air them. I wish I could remember off the top of my head.. Oh, there was a situation where they said the husband of a missing wife was suppose to have been arrested, then they corrected themselves and said "no he was taken 3 1/2 hrs downtown..then later they reported he wasn't taken downtown at all. My point it, if they want to give us unconfirmed 'speculations', at least warn us.

O'Reilly was tough just to shed his "conservative" tag. He calls himself an independent. BTW, I have no problem with him being tough, but he was unfair. He basically said that if Bush/Cheney had given a better warning 9/11 could have been prevented. That goes close to the Cynthia Mckinney line. He also wants Cheney's energy meeting files open--
a demoRat preoccupation that suggests that Lay and co. are calling all the shots for this "oilman junta." Joe Conason couldn't have been a bigger jerk to the second lady. All in all, disgraceful!!!

I don't think he's ever called himself a conservative. He emphasized that quite a few times..during the clintonian era.

I can't stand Fox news. The conservative bias thing bothers me a little bit, I guess, but mostly I don't like the production or the grating personalities of O'Reilly, Smith, or Hannity. I find Greta to be the most watchable. The Fox news "babes" everyone worships here have enough botox in their faces to launch some kind of terrorist attack. Also, I have no idea what the hell a g-block is.

I also have been complaining over their News Alerts that go on and on during the day and about their coverage over the weekend that the Al Qaeda person was not in US custody when he was -- other networks said he was.

If you want me to go on, I will be glad to -- how about their reporting in the Laci Peterson case that day when they searched the Peterson house. Fox -- Nine squad cars trapped Scott in his driveway, led him away in handcuffs. Actual story, they ran into Peterson down the street (two cars) and asked him to return to the house so they could give him a search warrant. Huge difference in reporting between Fox News and CNN/MSBNC who BTW turned out to be right and Fox was wrong.

Another one recently -- explosion at the CDC in Atlanta. Hazmat team on the way. Fact: Fire alarm went off in a building and they orderly evacuated. MSNBC got that one right too.

If you think Garrett is my only problem, then you don't know me at all! I don't take anyone's news forgranted until I find a second source. Have seen too many Breaking News stories turn out to be duds on all the Cable News networks. Sorry if I don't have the love affair with Fox but the day I start taking everything they say as gospel, I will remember Rita Cosby saying the SCOTUS had given Al Gore the victory. If you haven't noticed the preponderance of ex-MSNBC folks along with CNN that all over Fox, then go right ahead and keep saying Fox is the only channel to watch.

I spent hour upon hour working to get Fox on my cable and I still do watch Fox a lot for your information. Sorry you don't think a new channel should be critized when they make mistakes. People on here like to take after CNN and MSNBC -- do you want the same thing to happen to Fox where they don't think they have to answer to anyone because they are all we have.

Give me a break!

At 9:00 cst I watch Joe Scarborough on MSNBC instead of Greta.
