Mansoor Ijaz on FNC "9 others captured with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed'

Fox News contributor on with Brit Hume said, in passing really, that 9 other Al-Qaeda operartives had been captured with KSM. Some reports had listed Saif al-Adel as captured but this is the first that I had heard of a larger group captured. Any FReepers have more information?

"It's not a Somali...I know what I heard."

That was in reference to the MSNBC excerpt from Straight Vermonter in #36, which lists a Somali as the second guy, not to you.

"I have to ask, what is your background with all things Arab/Muslim?"

I know enough about the language to know how to ask where the bathroom is, so I can pick out little tidbits like surnames and what not (al-Masri, for example, means "the Egyptian," which is why the Yemeni Abu Mohammed killed in Algeria is not our guy).

Dog, I do appreciate the link, as that clarifies things a great deal. Okay, now we know that it *is* al-Hawasawi, which makes this a very happy day. The reason I questioned you is that a variation of the story identified the third man as Saif al-Adel, who would also be a nice catch. Though al-Hawasawi is certainly more reasonable than al-Adel, as the latter is known to be in Iran.

A final point to be made now is that if Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was captured back in September (as MSNBC has evidently hinted) it means that al-Qaeda was able to plan and execute at least three mass casualty attacks in Bali, Moscow, and Mombasa without him and without those plots being disrupted. That would be bad, as blows like this are generally supposed to inflict major damage on an organization like al-Qaeda.

The O'Reilly Factor - USF's Sami Al Arian's Arrest (And What The Muslims Say About It)

The O'Reilly Factor - USF's Sami Al Arian's Arrest (And What The Muslims Say About It)
The O'Reilly Factor | 26 February, 2003

Posted on 02/26/2003 6:10 PM PST by Happy2BMe

Tonight on The O'Reilly Factor, Bill O'Reilly addressed the arrest of Florida State University Professor Sami Al Arian. Bill O'Reilly's guest was Fox news analyst Mansoor Ijaz.

Bill O'Reilly pointed out that he had been under heavy attack over the past year from the Muslim community for originally breaking the first arrest of Professor Al Arian, but had kept quiet over the ongoing debate.

Sami Al Arian was arrested on terrorism-related charges and Bill O'Reilly said that if he was innocent, Al Arian should be fully exhonerated and given full backpay.

In the closing remarks of the segment, Bill O'Reilly said that if the Islamic Imams had come out publicly, which they should have done, after 9/11, and condemned it with mass ralleys that he would recieve it. Bill O'Reilly said that it was the imam's responsibiity to tell the American people what they think - not his.

Bill O'Reilly gave the closing remarks to Fox News analyst Mansoor Ijaz, who had led a very stern and vigorous (sometimes heated) defense for Islam during the segment.

Manssor Ijaz's reply to Bill O'Reilly:

"You're right about that, but there is a problem - and that is that these people are scared. They're scared of you, they're scared of the media, they're scared of people that are driving them further and further under the ground.

And, I'm telling you that it is creating a basement that is going to retaliate against the American people (O'Reilly says, "I hope not!") in a way we have never seen before!

Odd, your red highlights. I have been impressed with Ijaz for qhite a while. He has condemned and taken on in public the muslim charities who are shells for terror money. He has called for the muslims to stand and defend us. He is very pro american and was before all this if I remember right. Always liked hearing from him.

"Odd, your red highlights."

Those words should have been in quotes - they came straight out of Ijaz's mouth.

I have a tendancy to agree with the assessment of a "thread on a sweater", mostly because of the computer they found with him; along with all the other people they have arrested too.

"Mr. Hersh’s credibility may remain questionable for many because President Bush vehemently rejected his previous assertions. However, one will have to make a big assumption about Mr Bush’s truthfulness also after listening to his daily statements on Iraq. Regardless of Mr Hersh’s credit worthiness, allegations against Pakistan have been circulating in Washington circles since the last few months. Anti-Pakistan sentiments are rising slowly and one should not be surprised if the US re-imposes sanctions."

Indeed he has changed his duckspeak somewhat. This is one of the main problems he has, his continued changing of positions. He took a beating from those who are experts in the counter-terrorism fields for his previous stances in which is one of the reason for his change of heart. While statements like AQ is nothing more than a MOB and underplaying thier role in terrorism now. It is yet to be seen just how much damage we have done. While his zeal to break news on Fox or for that matter any of the cable news outlets is also troubling. You would think our spooks would have liked to have a day or two before the news on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed broke. Now they are scrambling before all the others go underground and we lose them.

This also happened during the Pearl case and if my sources are correct that book is being written now. Ijaz told me most of what he was all about during the Cosby Show when he at the end said, watch the ten oclock show I am on it! Its all about TV presence. If Mohammed was arrested in Germany or another Country Ajaz would not be a blip on Fox.

Ijaz according to my source is one of Fox's primary sources and during the Afghanistan conflict was wrong more times than he was right. Not to mention he never goes into Pakistan role in developing and financing the Taliban.

Thanks for that backgrounder. Interesting to understand some of the reasons why his tone has changed from minimising AQ/ISI to his current more balanced viewpoint.

He sounded freaked out the other day on O'reilly when speaking about the threat from jihadis in the USA and how the US media had not given them enough of a soapbox.

I had to laugh as I don'tthink any viewpoint has been given as much airtime as the muslims and jihadis of American, particularly immediately in the aftermath of the Attacks on America.

Some interesting links on the L'Affaire Pearl -

Musharraf's shocking statements regarding Pearl's 'intrusiveness' --

And this--

>>Khalid Khwaja, a retired Air Force officer who had worked in the ISI till 1988 and who was reportedly in touch with Osama bin Laden, are Mansur Ijaz, an American lobbyist of Pakistani origin,

>>Pearl told him that Ijaz had recommended that he (Pearl) should contact him (Khwaja). Khwaja claimed that he had turned down Pearl's request.

This site is worth checking out, too. This is where Ijaz got his recent scoop regarding the missing nuclear scientists.

Thanks I will look at the sites. The one story I can confirm is:

"Khalid Khwaja, a retired Air Force officer who had worked in the ISI till 1988 and who was reportedly in touch with Osama bin Laden, are Mansur Ijaz, an American lobbyist of Pakistani origin,"

Ijaz has been playing the candle at both ends one of these days the flame is going to burn through to the middle.

HAH! Sounds like you have some inside skinny about these goings on. I did get flayed and had my head handed to me on a thread last summer when i dared to question Ijaz's honesty and reliability and wondered if he wasn't two timing everyone.

I will only say this much about any skinny. My sources are indeed very good and like I have said before trust but verify and this includes the talking heads on Fox as well as CNN, MSNBC and others. 95% of them all have a special interest. If people would only spend some time researching some of the things said there would be no personal attacks on anyone who raised questions.

I have to wonder why General Downing is now a contributor with MSNBC and not Fox. BTW Downing is one of the good guys.

Wasn't Downing head of an AntiTerror Task Force or something like that who resigned last fall?

I remember a couple of articles discussing the significance of him leaving but not much else and the issue vanished.

BTW, any opinion on Woodward's book, Bush @ War?

One last link you're probably aware of but here it is anyway.

Thanks again and I am aware of the site. Its a good one.

"Wasn't Downing head of an AntiTerror Task Force or something like that who resigned last fall? I remember a couple of articles discussing the significance of him leaving but not much else and the issue vanished."

Indeed, Downing was Special Assistance to the President on Counter-Terrorism. The WH said he left because he wanted to spend more time with his family. Some in the Pentagon said he left because of the infighting at the WH. Downing is not the type to leave a post to spend more time with his family especially after this Country was badly attacked. Loosing Downing at the WG is a loss to all of us and I believe the Pentagon sources view of things on this one.
