Janeane Garofalo: 'It Wasn't Hip' to Protest Clinton's Wars
Comedienne-turned-peace-activist Janeane Garofalo offered a stunning admission on Sunday, explaining that she and her fellow anti-war protesters didn't stage huge demonstrations when President Clinton launched attacks on Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan and the Sudan because "it wasn't very hip" to protest the former president.
Asked by "Fox News Sunday's" Tony Snow why peace protesters like herself didn't object to Clinton's wars, Garofalo explained:
"I absolutely did. I did not support Operation Desert Fox. It's just that you didn't know me very well back then. Nobody really was interested in listening to me back then."
Then she added, by way of explaining why the anti-Clinton protests never gelled, "It wasn't very hip."
Garofalo went on to claim that Hollywood actors Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins led protests against Clinton's 1998 Iraq attack, saying that "there was a lot of protest, just as there was against the first Gulf War."
A Lexis-Nexis search for December 1998, the month Clinton bombed the daylights out of Baghdad, failed to turn up a single report that mentioned either Sarandon or Robbins protesting the attacks.
A similar search for the month of February 2003 turned up 124 reports on Sarandon protesting President Bush's Iraq policy.
TOPICS: News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: antiwar; garofalo; hypocrisy; iraq; leftist
Ah, if only the "mainstream" media would pay closer attention to these very glaring admissions. But no...that'd just expose the hypocrisy, shallowness, and partisan political leanings of their darling Hollywood actors-turned-pundits.
One burning question: since when did second-rate hacks from Hollywood have any credibility on issues of foreign affairs??

Fox and Friends' Brian did a number on her that will be long remembered.

I've run into different things Janeane has done over the years. This woman wouldn't know hip if it were a Mac Truck and she had residual Mac truck tire marks across that splendid mug of hers. Remind me the next time she's promoting some product she's had a hand in creating. I can avoid Leno and Letterman for a month or two.

I can't stand the woman...BUT,
She's been horribly misquoted on this. I've even seen the addition of "protest Bill Clinton" added to her "it wasn't hip" comment. She never said that. And some news outlets have attacked her for prescibing to that view.
The comment was made to Tony Snow after she explained that she and others DID protest and disagree with Bill Clinton's use of force, especially without the U.N.
Tony said something while she was trying to finish her reply and she said, "it wasn't hip" and she stopped to listen to his next question. I have the show on tape and I've read the transcripts. She clearly was trying to say that for the others in Hollywood it wasn't hip. She actually did a favor by pointing that out.
Now I know she's made other comments about Clinton like the "Beatles" comment, but it's really unfair to say she didn't protest war and use of the military back then. And using this hip comment to make the point is not good journalism.
She was more on message when she said to Tony that, "no one would listen to me back then".
Again, I'm not saying she's right, I just wish the "right" wouldn't make the same mistakes in the media that we accuse the "left" of doing. Since her sentence was never finished, it isn't prudent for so many to infer what she meant. She herself has been consistent in her views.
Did she let out the truth of the left's hypocrisy? Defintely. Did she say the same about herself which many of the stories imply? No.

Sooooooo, War is HIP if it's waged by a Liberal President???? WOW!! Pretty much says it all.
Guess she wanted to use her kneepads with Clinton.
