Joining in prayer.

Bless their souls.

And bless all they leave behind.

Former aircraft maintenance here - amen to what you said - even in the best of conditions, it's stuff that the man on the street wouldn't do.

These boys will be coming home in body bags. Is there a center here where you can send a postcard and it goes to the families rather than going all the way to kuwait and back again.

There was a guy here who was interviewed whose voice started cracking when he said he would never forget the first time he opened up the Stars and Stripes newsletter and saw all the protests during Vietnam. I know it has to be hard on these people to think the US citizens don't give a damn.

Bump

Thank you LizardQueen. . . we just learned from the local family support group that our son was not in the Blackhawk crash.

I don't know which unit or which post they belong to. As soon as we find out that information, we can get in touch with their Public Affairs Officer (PAO) and get an address where we can send cards for their families.

I pinged AntiJen, as a former Air Force PAO, she knows her way around those folks!!

If you have NOT seen it... you MUST see:
We Were Once Soldiers... with Mel Gibson.

ONE time with it, will completely raise your spirits as a soldier, a fighting man, or even just a red-blooded american.

INCREDIBLE... and accurate.
Black hawk down made me sick... I sat through it twice to try and make sure it was not only me that kept thinking, perhaps even saying "damn you clintong" from beginning to end.

Hi Jinxie, good idea about the cards. Suggest you send the cards in care of the PA office or the unit commander at the post where the soldiers were stationed, and ask that the cards be forwarded to the family members.

I can get various military items on a wholesale basis from a friend and I have been toying with the idea of periodically sending out sympathy cards with a pin or patch from that persons division or something similiar.
However, I am not sure it would even get to the family and I am not sure it would even be appreciated. It might even freak them out or upset them more.

For example, I have black hawk patches and pins. But if someone dies in a black hawk crash I don't think I would feel too good about sending that in a card.

I'm sick-n-tired of these Fn flimsy helicopters. They've had over 40 years to get one that has a moderate defense against ground fire. The Russians solved this problem 20 years ago. Yet today the blackhawk is little more than a flying Hummvee. Paper-thin aluminum and plexiglass over an aluminum frame.

Heck, why don't we just lease some Hinds from the Russians for goodness sakes?

Nix just had word - her brother is ok.

She sends prayers for the rest of the families, those who are waiting and those who may have had bad news. Add my pryers to hers.

Yeah - the Hind was a tough helicopter. Ask the mujihadeen who killed them on a regular basis. But then, when you paint a big red star over the engine oil tank, that kind of stuff happens.

That's great - I'm glad it wasn't him (not that I'm glad it was someone else, either, you know what I mean).

Afghanistan: Blast Reportedly Kills Special Forces Group - Feb 24, 2003

Unconfirmed reports from Afghanistan on Feb. 24 say that a number of U.S. Special Forces "officials" were killed after an explosion occurred under their vehicle. The group was traveling in the provice of Zarmat. New sources have conflicting information about the exact number of fatalities. Initial reports were that 10 Americans were in the double-cab vehicle and that all were killed. Reports from the Daily Islam and the Pakistan-based Daily Ausaf, which have been translated and posted by jihadunspun.com, did not say whether the vehicle was destroyed by an explosive device placed under the vehicle or if the it struck a landmine.

Would you just please go away? This thread is about the loss of four brave patriots and your claims that it is all about oil are disgusting.

I am afraid these who just died are from my son's unit He just lost four buddies three weeks ago, and you are all over this thread trying to insert your political agenda. Just go away.
