Get ready for the return to GPS "Selective Availability".

"What would be affected if we scrambled the signal for a few hours? Any life threatening consequences?"
Yes if it's during battle as our Rangers, Seals and recon depend on it heavily. I say if they do it, nuke Baghdad and be done with this mess. Make an example of the cockroaches.

That would certainly bring to an abrupt halt all the freaking scare-mongering and bizarre rumors, wouldn't it?

I was watching for ALERTS the other day and you're right! Every five minutes there's a news alert and most of them aren't worth bothering with. How stupid.

" it's just about time simply to ice the bastards and have done with it."
Can add nothing to that statement, but,an "Amen." Imagine allowing Osama bin Laden extra time to train his pilots-that's what the UN,France,Germany and the Democrats are doing with Iraq.

a guided drone? sounds like they're leading michael moore around on a leash

What would be affected if we scrambled the signal for a few hours? Any life threatening consequences?Nothing life threatening I can think of, but bear in mind that alot of OTR freight and ocean-going vessels use GPS as a primary means of navigation (ocean-going of course have other systems for nav.)
Not to mention geeks like myself with GPS in our cars for finding our way around the country, or those who use them while hiking to keep track of their location.

i'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that it's just about time simply to ice the bastards and have done with it. Regarding the timing of the decision to go to war. There is really nothing to be gained by any further delay for "diplomatic reasons." If it makes Tony Blair's position easier all well and good but at this point those who will be convinced are convinced and those who are opposed to the USA doing what it needs to do in Iraq will never be convinced no matter what the evidence. Absolutely any evidence presented by the administration will be discounted. If we had a live vidoe feed of Saddam personally pressing the button launching anuclear tipped missle at New York City and a full track of that missle to the city a crater where the center of the city was the opponents of war with Iraq would say you do not know that is really Saddam we have to try more diplomacy.
The only thing we accomplish by waiting is to strengthen our enemies.

AH HA!!!! IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!!!
The Iraqis ship drones in pieces to the US. So what's next? They have to assemble them, of course. And what is a valuable tool for assembling the drones???? DUCT TAPE!!
And what product was quickly and efficiently removed from American home improvement stores? DUCT TAPE!!
Ridge is brilliant! Positively brilliant!!

>>>>drones that have GPS mapping >>Did you mean "guidance"?
Actually, when I first saw the term GPS mapping, I thought perhaps Iraq was attemping to build a topography database of US locations. This would be useful if they have built/purchased working ICBMs. The DB could be used to programs MIRVs.
To: Pokey78
I think these would be pretty easy to spot.

"Guidance" is the word. Heck, we've got a mapping GPS (Garmin 76S), but it's not really going to help send in any kind of bomb. I could duct tape our sextant to a bomb & it'd have the same effect.

I may need to figure out that sextant thing while I spend 6 months in mid ocean waiting for the anthrax and VX to be cleaned up and the smallpox to be contained.

Does this mean I am going to have to find my sextant and try to remember which end to look through?Well remembering which end to look through is the easy part getting a good fix on a star and getting your three circles of position is the hard part
