Debate resumes for the nomination of Miguel Estrada. Live on C-Span 2 now.
Nomination to the judiciary of Miguel Estrada, Feb. 24, 2003:
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tx) first to speak:
"I rise at the beginning of the third week of Senate debates.."
"Many of us were not here when I believe these perceived slights occured."
(referring to comments overheard on the floor, "What's good for the goose is good for the gander." etc.
"I'm also concerned with the double standards."
"It must be a terrible (?) for those who obstruct (this nomination). For them to win, the American dream must lose."
"Precious Senate time, energy and attention that could have been devoted to getting the Nation's business done has simply been delayed."
Re. those who will not even allow Miguel a vote: "A truly selfish and unprecidented act."
"The Democratic leadership's strategy is clear. Delay Mr. Estrada's nomination indefinitely in the hopes that Mr. Estrada's supporters will give up.."
"Much of our time has simply been devoted to cleaning up the mess left to us under their leadership."
"The Democratic leadership seems obsessed with obstructing (Mr. Estrada's nomination) and I wonder why that is."
"When I was back home in Texas last week...I read an editorial from the Dallas Morning News that perhaps gives us some clue...There is a time for talking and a time for voting. The time has passed for talking...."
"There is only one thing the Democratic leadership can do to stop him...that is to change the rules and create an unfair double standard."
"The American people will not stand for such unfair and childish behavior from the Senate."
"As the Austin Amer. Statesman" has editorialized, if the Dems. have something substantive to block Miguel's nomination, it's high time they show it." (paraphrased)

Sen. Cornyn's allowing Sen. Feinstein to talk about something else. Grrr. Immediately followed by Sen. Grassley.

Howlin. Suspended?
Good grief. This must have to do with the flamewar thread that I was pinged to, but thankfully missed until it was frozen.
Come to think of it, has TLB been suspended as well? That would be proof certain, as they were mixing it up pretty hard.

The Schume is behaving like a Nazi. He wants judges who are loyal to the legislature and will not overturn unconstitutional legislation.
All Schumer cares about is seeing that as many abortions as possible occur, and preventing people from owning handguns.

"We have a right to talk on the Senate floor for as long as we want." Sen. Harry Reid...knowing we can't get the 60 Senators for a vote that the Dems. changed the rules to require. Why can't Sen. Frisk change the rule back?

I wrote about the same type of letter to Leahy. Never got a response, of course. Incidently, I could never find a web site for him. He must really be despised....

Sen Reid is dissing Mr. Fielding, an ABA lawyer who wrote the ABA recommendation (gues Fielding duct taped the mouths of the other ABA members:
Now Sen. Reid is dissing the ABA "Gold standard." Saying that GOP put down the ABA in the past.
Re. Miguel: "The lack of credibility of this nomination."
Sen. Reid naming names, C. Boyden Gray, ABA members he doesn't trust. Nixon, Reagan, Bush, Quayle...the horrors!
This is the politics of personal destruction in all it's ugliness.

Sen. Harry Reid:
"If the case is so bad, let them file cloture."
Harry Reid's now criticizing the President on the turning a winning economy into a deficit. )This after the Democrats in the Senate obstructed everything)."Because of the economic policies of this Preisident and the tax cut."
This is war!

Oh, I miss her terribly, too. It's just not as entertaining to make fun of Sinator Edwards without her.

Thanks, RC...appreciate it...

I agree with you. The electoral college worked exactly as it was intended: to equalize the inequities of small and large states AND "block" votes.
And lest we forget, Gore didn't carry his own state which would have given him the win without Florida.
I thank God for his goodness.
To: votelife
Do you have a list of the 19? Dems up in 2004, and what they've said about Estrada?
